SONY SLV-R5UC S-VHS VCR & RMT-V5A Remote *AS NEW*

Will Ship To: Continental U.S.

I have had my Sony SLV-R5UC 'Super VHS' (S-VHS) VCR since new (purchased from Magnolia Audio in Lynnwood, WA in 1990). The loading mechanism was replaced under warranty by a Sony authorized service shop in Mount Vernon, WA (I lived in Marysville at the time) a few months after purchase and has performed flawlessly since then. I had been using the R5 for "time-shifting" initially but soon bought another VCR (Sony SLV-R1000) to assume those daily duties. The R5 became my dubbing machine and I loved using the "Jog/Shuttle" frame-by-frame editing feature. It was taken to a local shop in Everett for routine maintenance & cleaning 3 times a year.

Starting around June 1998 my R5 began having audio problems, mostly with the right channel. The Everett shop (Northwest Tape & Audio Lab) replaced the video head with a genuine Sony part but the problem persisted. I brought the R5 back to Northwest Tape and my friend Mike adjusted the video circuits, touched up or re-soldered the solder on multiple points on ALL of the circuit boards, renewed (clean) the pinch roller and did a general cleaning. He was unable to repair the audio problems so in March of 1999 he took it to the old Sony Factory Service Center in Seattle on South Fidalgo. The Sony Service Center replaced the following parts (they also did an electrical adjustment, cleaned & lubed, & performed a specification measurement and functional check):

8-848-531-11 Lower Drum Assy DZH-18A-R 60-19-2
141356611 Switching Block No. (80-02)
X37491734 Roller Block Assy (70-19)
A6747267A Arm Block Assy, S,C (70-16)
X37299261 Brake (2) Assy, T (70-21)
A6754131A Mounted Circuit Board, MD
A6725882A Mounted Circuit Board, MF (45-60)

By the time my R5 was returned to me in Better Than New condition most of my time-shifting needs had been taken over by my SLV-R1000 and/or DirecTV satellite boxes (with my TiVo DVR soon to follow). I had purchased another VCR for dubbing (playback) so the R5 went into climate-controlled storage.

The operational & working condition of my SLV-R5UC S-VHS VCR is as new, and actually BETTER THAN NEW when you factor in the new head with VERY LOW HOURS and the extensive repairs that were expertly performed at the Sony FACTORY SERVICE CENTER in Seattle (not to mention having ALL SOLDER POINTS ON ALL CIRCUIT BOARDS RENEWED). It powers on instantly and the LED display is bright and clear. I have had it connected to my TV and everything works as new. The remote control, Sony part # RMT-V5A, is fully operational and has a strong LCD display. Cosmetically, there are a few scratches on the top edge of the folding door where the tapes are loaded. The simulated wood grain side panels look great.

Included with my SLV-R5 S-VHS VCR is the original 87-page Operating Instructions (Manual) which looks as good as new - no tears, folds, writing etc. I am also including 3 New, STILL SEALED Fuji Film S-VHS tapes: 2 are 160 minutes (8 hours) and 1 is a "Master Quality" H471S (Fuji part #) double coating with a folding "snap close" box.

Asking $220 OBO. I can ship to anywhere in Continental U.S. via Parcel Post Insured and Tracked for $40 Local pickup is free for the Lynnwood/Seattle/Bellevue general area in WA state.
