4.40? What does it do?

I can't find anything on the internet about it. Anyone know? Taking awhile to download so it must be something.

Weird it took me only 5 minutes to download! Can't find anything either.

I'm sure it's just inconveniencing 50 million users to stop a handful of pirates from using the newest exploit. That's all PS3 updates have down for nigh on three years now.

Untrue.

Sounds like someone throwing a tantrum because he can't exploit the newest crack...

"Sounds like someone throwing a tantrum because he can't exploit the newest crack"

Of course it can't be because as a legitimate user I find it extremely annoying that an update gets pushed out every month with the net result that it consumes my time with zero benefit to me. Nope, couldn't possibly be that!

I at least wish they'd auto-patch for Plus subs. They always seem to get released during prime evening gaming hours for me (7-10pm PST). Though I know the reason they don't is likely because they want you to accept another EULA for it.

"I at least wish they'd auto-patch for Plus subs."

That was of course one of the several promised features for Plus that was never actually fully implemented and instead just left half-finished.

So does every patch have to benefit you? If a patch benefits others but not you, that's not OK?

Hey, there's always the PS2, no patches whatsoever.

Technically, the PS3 does NOTHING BUT consume your time, with no benefit to you or anyone else. Go work in the yard instead. smile.gif

Well, it might. From what I've read hacked consoles that go online can bring exploits to the online world pretty easily. So keeping the jackasses offline is a good thing IMO.

They have the level 0 keys. There's no amount of patching that can stop them now.

I felt like commenting that they should call it the Patchstation 3. MS Windows and Patchstation 3 both are pretty consistent with monthly updates. Patchstation seems to be at a steady clip of bi-monthly updates, lately.

This might be accurate but it's not on Sony official site so who knows.

Don't forget that the blu-ray format itself also calls for firmware updates in order to take advantage of the "newest" blu-ray capabilities. As long as a format (blu-ray) is still undergoing changes, any device that plays them will likely have plenty of firmware updates.

I know it's never going to happen, but I really would love it if they finally made it possible to delete any old trophies that you don't want on your system. Over half of what is listed on mine, I no longer even own the game so to see all these coming up is annoying to me.

I agree. My OCD like to see a clean list, and as I've added more and more games I've also noticed going into the trophy section is slowing down considerably.

Being able to "Prestige" trophies would be a cool feature. Reset with a small acknowledgment and be able to earn them again on the same account.

Whoa, patch 4.40 has a pretty awesome new feature that won't be activated until May: remote PS3 downloads from a non-PS3 device that has access to the PSN store:

Please note that the item you quoted is for the EU region. The update info for the us region says absolutely nothing about the ability to download items to a PC. The US update page only says the following:

Can't argue with that.

For people complaining about the waste of time, I have enough gadgets in my life and stuff to do that the inconvenience of updating isn't really much of a problem. You can fill infinite time with the internet. That said, I understand that when that itch to play hits, you want to play then and there, not later.
