Defiance - Page 2

Made it past EGO 500. As I promised myself, I opened the Tier 3 and Tier 2 lock boxes given at the start of the game. And now I can say that I have gotten an orange item.

An orange version of the single most useless item that I was aware of in the game: a flashbang grenade.

I'd tossed a couple that I'd picked up as I went along. Nobody ever died. Some occasionally were stunned, but not enough to help.

An unlike the purple and orange weapons that take ammo, no listed special effects like health or ammo regen. Nothing. Nada.

So I'll hang on to it for a while. EGO 500 added another 8 inventory slots. If I can't find a reason to keep it, maybe somebody is looking to complete a set or something. Otherwise I'll sell it. And try to forget what I could have gotten instead...

I actually had a couple of offers to take the grenade off my hands, from folks on the Defiance discussion site. So far, nobody has tracked me down to trade...

This looks interesting but I've heard nightmares about server instability and inventory items vanishing. Is the stability getting better? I'm tempted to get this game. Once I finish/get bored of the God of War series on the PS3 I'll probably come back to the 360 and get this. Maybe another month will help sort out any kinks too.

I was kicked with no notice I was aware of one or twice this week. They pull the server down with notice on a regular basis. https://twitter.com/DefianceGame also announces server-related info along with other things.

I lost one pistol so far, but it was nothing GREAT so I just let it go. I understand that if you lose something legendary, they can only give you a box that has a guaranteed legendary in it as a replacement, so your luck determines what goes back in your inventory. Not sure what they give for lesser losses...

I only disconnect once in a blue moon(they've pretty-much patched it out), but the last time I lost a pistol I just maxed out. It's the worst when that happens because it takes a lot of time/effort to do.

I'm keeping the purple assault rifle I got from the episode missions (not sure everybody got that exact item) even though it's maxed out, because of the included grenade refresh. No more assault rifle skill upgrades since it's maxed, but I also have a SAW for that job. The perk I picked up when the AR was maxed is not something that makes it a keeper.

I've got several weapons hanging around until I max the current one out. I *need* a new Ground Pounder. A single-shot grenade launcher is NOT the same as one that MIRVs...

Joined the Lone Wolves clan.

"Remember you are not obligated or forced to do anything so enjoy yourself. The only thing that I would expect from others is to be respectful to other members, and to try and avoid pointless arguments." sold me...

Small world. One of my friends is in the clan.

I decided that I am just going to jump in and get this game, possibly today. I have a few friends that are loving it, and we usually have the same taste in games, so I want to check it out.

Just don't wreck your controller the 10,000th time you are in the middle of a firefight and the gun decides to reload. Mass Effect 3 multiplayer had it bad sometimes, but the lag HERE is far more frequent...

It's alright. I know that things will be pretty spotty at first with it being a new MMO on a console that Trion isn't used too. I can forgive it when you consider the amount of stuff you have to do in the game.

You won't regret it. Minor glitches aside, it's a ton of fun.

I had a blast on it tonight.

I only had a little lag last night, and it was when I was running around doing the arkfalls. But the one I lagged at we had well over 100 people there fighting. It is pretty fun. I have a question, do we have to install the game to the hard drive? I know it installed information on start up, but is the disc drive still being used?

It should have done its own install, like it did for me.

I looked at the box, and it says "10GB to play game". A couple other boxes I had out say something like "2MB to save game", so I think the jargon for hard disk required is now known to me...

Yeah, I had to install it on start up last night, so I wanted to make sure. Also, my friend invited me to the clan and I saw you sign on last night. This game looks like it will be a lot of fun.

Sometime relatively soon I need to get started with the Shadow Wars and co-op stuff. I'm trying to get the main mission advanced to the point of getting into San Francisco, since several contracts are available there, so it's not like I'm short of things to do. However, if I suck too much at PvP, I want to know soon...

One of my friends plays the online and seems to like it. I just need to start running some story stuff. I did a couple missions last night and then spent the rest of the night running Arkfall events with him and another friend.

Did a couple of co-op maps with fellow Lone Wolves. Party chat sucked, dropping in and out every few minutes, but Defiance's area chat sucked more when nobody could hear you. If I find a co-op lobby option it'll work better when nobody else is around, but I'm not counting on it...

Just bought the game and am installing the insanely large patch right now. My xbox live tag is mappleby if anybody wants to add me.

Ok I played for a couple of hours today and am liking it so far. I don't know if it is just because I've never played an MMO type game before but it seems like there are a million things going on. Apparently I maxed out my inventory and couldn't loot any more so I need to figure out the loot system a little better. I think I have duplicates of some weapons too. I noticed there seem to be a ton of different types of currency. Is there a FAQ or wiki or something so I can try and figure some of this stuff out or is it trial and error? I'm guessing one of the types of currency you pay for with real money and one you earn in game. But there was also something about "Keycodes" and "Ark" somethings.

http://www.arkfalls.com/ has some stuff.

http://forums.defiance.com/forumdisplay.php?22-General-Xbox-360 is the part of the game discussion site that I look at. Some details get discussed, some seem to be assumed to be well known.

I did my first Defiance PvP today. I hadn't done PvP since MechAssault on the original Xbox. Not thrilled that while my people are all green dots, only occasionally do I see a red dot for the enemy. Plus, when I don't see a dot, their name in red text above them is fairly hard to read. I started randomly firing my grenade-launching sawed-off shotgun and killed a few. Darn few.

What's going to be hard is making time to do the main missions, and the side missions, and the arkfalls, and the PvP co-op maps, and Shadow Wars wherever that is held, and whatever else they throw in. Already tired just looking at the list...

Oh, traded a couple of items with a friend, found out that yes, you do have to wait until EGO Level 1,000 to use a Level 1,000 weapon...

Bits is the currency you buy with Microsoft points. It's how they will make most of their money.

Scrip is the currency that you can spend at vendors by itself on known items like weapons or vehicles, or combined with keycodes at the lock box locations to buy 'treasure chests' and other stuff.

Keycodes are a currency that you pick up here and there, like at arkfalls and PvP. So far, I've only seen places that require keycodes AND scrip to buy stuff. I haven't seen anything that costs less than 8 keycodes, and 8 takes a few arkfalls to accumulate. If I was to guess, I'd say keycodes were invented so you'd think spending points on bits was a good idea.

Salvage is another currency that you use to modify your equipment. Buy a mod at the correct vendor with scrip, then spend open your Salvage menu and see what it'll cost you to make a slot on your weapon to put it in. I've had to spend as much as 22,000 to add the last mod slot to a weapon. Again, it doesn't roll in very fast, but all the junk weapons and grenades and shields you get can easily be converted to salvage. Could be worse.

And once you unlock contracts with some vendors, you complete contracts to gain reputation points with them. These points can be spent at their own vendor machines (only along with scrip), but I understand that spending the points lowers your rep so it's probably best to wait on spending it until you are maxed out and their best buddy...

A friend went to The Overpass in San Francisco and I did a Join Friend, so I can wander around SF getting some contracts done while eventually getting around to being able to drive there.

However, I learned the hard way that there's more than one reason why you can't cross the Golden Gate until later. It was like the old Doritos slogan: I sniped enemies, they made more...

Does the link to the Defiance.com website actually work? I got my first couple of Ark Codes and entered them on the My-EGO webpage. Supposedly it should have given my an in-game title but I don't have any titles when I go to my loadout page. So do the extra inventory slots and stuff work? I don't want to waste my time finding and entering codes if I won't actually get the bonuses.

For all those of you who don't have time to search out EVERY code, scroll down to the bottom of the page at this link:

Any stuff you earn will be in the store, the one you get by holding the left trigger when at the menu and selecting the bottom of the shown wheel. You'll see a count of items waiting to be picked up...

I grabbed it off Amazon this morning and it'll be here Wednesday. Sounds fun and I can't wait to try it out smile.gif.

While you are waiting, I'd suggest entering 120 of the codes from above to get the perks. An extra 6 inventory slots may not sound like much, but they come in handy unless you feel like paying real money to carry things..
Yeah the inventory is pretty small. I would be very surprised if Trion doesn't introduce some sort of storage/chest capability in the game although it would most likely cost real $ to purchase.

You can buy 15 w/ MS points, and when you rank up you get more slots...
