I'm not happy about the Kinect support in Defiance.
Nothing I need to do is as important as switching loadouts. There are commands that do change loadouts, like "EGO Loadout 2" and "EGO Cycle Loadout". These commands, however, only function after you bring up the same menu in which you can then use the Y button to get the same job done.
And my fear is, it's about Balance. I can't remember ever saying "Yea, they really needed to get rid of that" when a gun did less damage, or whatever was changed because it was deemed to have been unbalanced. If I felt something wasn't playable, I didn't play.
So I responded to a thread about Kinect use in Defiance, and someone pointed out that "EGO Loadout 2" worked, just not the way I wanted it to work. And I verified this. And then the Specter of Balance came upon me, like Trion wanted everyone in a PvP match to be blinded by a menu when switching loadouts, so Kinect didn't make a positive difference for those who had it. Frankly, I find Kinect to be useless without a direct effect on how the game is played. If Mass Effect 3 had been PvP, I doubt any of the commands that changed ammo type or whatever would have worked. That kind of thing. I'd be FINE with loadout switching only working outside of PvP games. Really.
So that logo on the packaging about Better With Kinect doesn't mean better in the way *I* would define better. Microsoft needs a new slogan for games that have crippled Kinect features, or commands that are slower via Kinect for a reason, like so folks without Kinect aren't at a disadvantage.
The story Harrison Bergeron
where everyone is made equal with handicaps on the superior ones comes to mind, but I'm sure Handicapped Kinect would be rejected.
Perhaps Kinect Lite...
