Hi everybody, Screen advice needed

Let me start by saying I'm a huge fan of this forum, I'm looking forward to your advice.

I recently picked up a pt-8000ae, putting it in a spare basement room, so very controllable light sources. Seating is 10.5 feet and the throw is 165 inches. I currently have the projector installed and am projecting on some foam board so I can get an idea of sizes. Here is my quagmire, I tend to like an overwhelming screen experience, ie 120" for 10 feet away. I have a few reasons, my kids like to play Xbox and they always split the screen into 4 quadrants, so having a bigger screen seems to work, plus i do want it viewable from other rooms on the rare superbowl occasion. Do you all think that is too big?

Also, I really don't want to spend 3k on a diamond screen, ESP with such a controllable room. My question is what would be best? I couldn't find a great answer with the penny 8000. I'm thinking painted, but could sure use some advise.

Thanks

"Best" I think is both subjective and completely depends on budget. You can spend hundreds or thousands and you can spend less if you want to paint. The issue with painting is finding a perfectly flat and smooth surface. If its just your current wall, its likely not either of these. This will cause imperfections in the image that you may not be satisfied with. There are plenty who swear by the method, and it can look very good, it just wasn't for me. It also takes time, and time is money so how much cheaper is it really? thats just my two cents. If you want some more accurate responses I would suggest giving your budget, what you typically watch, lights on or off when watching, etc. if you've got full light control and typically watch logs off then you've got no need for a black diamond as you stated. A white screen may be a better option. I know this doesn't answer your question, but hopefully it gives you some things to consider.

Thanks havok2020, Good point on the screens, currently the wallis typical white board painted, so I would need to put a few coats of primer then the other layers. I'm not crazy about painting ( have never been good at it) for a screen I could see spending 1,500. I was hoping to get all the basics for 4-5k, and the projector was 2500, still need 4 seats.

So far we have only watched movies and Xbox, 80% lights off, also have to say the picture looks great with the silly foam boards stitched together, those are white so I could see a white screen working in that space.

I just got a 110" Elite Sable Frame off Amazon for $276 shipped. For me, worth not messing with paint and I think it looks quite good.
