Help me reduce the output of IR emitter please

I recently got the Arris Moxi DVR (WOW! Cable) I am using Roomie Remote with Global Cache iTach's sending he ir through an ir emitter on each player. The problem I am having is that the emitters are too strong and causing issues.

I wanted to see if anyone knew of a DIY way of reducing the output of the IR emitters. Ideally it would be an adjustable gain but I am open to something set if there is an easy way to figure out the right "strength". To at least get it to work "less than acceptable I have it shooting through 4 pieces of paper)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am searching the web for everything. I have seen some options I can buy for $18 each but would prefer to not spend $18x3 if I can do something myself.

There are lots of ways. You could put an appropriate value resistor in series with one of the leads of each emitter. Or you could try painting the emitter with something that absorbs some of the IR. Or you could make a mask from something like aluminum foil with a small aperture that only lets some of the IR through.

What kind of problems are you having?

Colm,

I am looking for something more like a resister but do not know how to do it. (I can build it if I have instructions)

Currently I got it working pretty good with 15 layers of blue painters tape. smile.gif

Thanks. I tried a 50ohm resister and found better luck with 13 layers of blue painters tape. I will try what you suggest to get more reliable results.
