How do you like them? How fast is the new high speed HDMI switching?

Good going starting the new thread. However the models should be listed, so that forum searches will pick them up.

RX-V375

RX-V475

RX-V575

RX-V675

RX-V775WA

I have the RX-v575, for about 12 years ....i'm very novice but i recently had my internet provide come in and install a new router and a couple "boosters". it changed my wifi name but not my password but my gut tells me the Receiver didn't come on board. all we see now are demo options, it's not talking....i've read enough internet feeds to be totally confused. i'm not an expert but if someone feels they can dumb it down i'm in!!! I use IOS and AV was being used wirelessly.
thanks

I just picked up the entry level Yamaha RX-V375. I upgraded from a vintage Kenwood KA-88 which was manufactured in the 80's! I also upgraded my speakers from a vintage pair of Cerwin Vega's AT-12s (also made in the 80s!) to a Paradigm Cinema Series 100 surround system. I added the Paradigm DSP-3100 subwoofer as well. Previously I was using a top of the line Monoprice branded 4 port 2 channel HDMI Splitter/Switch. I can tell you that the switching with the Yamaha is way faster. Overall all I love the Yamaha amp. It pushes my speaker package well given that they are all entry level. But entry level from a top notch manufacturer. Everything sounds and looks great.

I just grabbed the RX-V475 today. I would estimate the HDMI switching in under a second. - it's quick.

I have to RTFM to figure out why I'm always defaulting to AV1 on startup. I read elsewhere if I disable HDMI control it will return to last default placement (HDMI 2 in my case) but then I won't be able to control volume with STB remote (programmed for my television of course).

Hello all. I just got the RX-V 3 75 and I cannot get any video or sound to play if I hook my Blu Ray player (Panasonic BD85), Or PS 3 if they are hooked up to the reciever by HDMI. If they are hooked up directly to the tv (LG) everything works fine but if I hook up through the Receiver, everything inputed and then try to switch to any of th eimputs no sound or video come through. Is there something I'm missing? All the HDMI cables are new.

Forget the PS3 for a minute - concentrate on the Blu Ray for a few. Just to confirm you have two HDMI cables correct? One cable from Blu Ray to Reciever and you have an output from receiver to TV. Make sure you are using the proper "output" HDMI port on the back of the receiver. Make a note on where the HDMI goes into the TV and make sure your TV source is correct.

I just noticed that the Yamaha website claims all models this year have discrete amps (even the 375). Not sure how much difference that makes in practice, but at least it's a change in the right direction. Last year discrete amps started with the 473, and previously it was only at the 6xx level (except the year when they unexpectedly gave the 665 the wimpy integrated amp).

If you (or anyone else) have their 475 connected to a network, can you please confirm that it supports the web browser control interface (just type the IP address of the receiver into a web browser). And if so, does it have the Backup/Recovery feature on the Settings page?

(If it has Backup/Recovery it presumably saves/restores everything including YPAO PEQ parameters, which implies they can be modified even though the normal user interface doesn't let you.)

Just an FYI. My 671 can do that.

What do you mean that the normal user interface doesnt allow you to modify PEQ parameters? I am able to change the parameters through the Setup menu on the 671 but I dont know if thats what you mean.

At the 6xx level you have manual PEQ control, but on the 4xx you don't. YPAO can set the PEQ filters on the 4xx, but for manual adjustment the UI only gives you a GEQ (filters with fixed frequencies and widths).

Yamaha played the same game back in the day of the RX-V1800 and 3800. They both had the same PEQ capabilities internally, but on the 1800 the UI did not give you access to manual adjustments. Luckily there was a back door via RS-232 codes to give full control on the 1800 (thats why PEQedit was created). There could be a similar backdoor via network codes on the 475 to allow manual PEQ control.

Can someone check to see if you can turn on the receiver using the yamaha app on their ipad or iphone? I understand that you couldn't turn on the receiver with the older RX-V473 and RX-V573, so I'm wondering if they fixed that. That's one of the primary features that I'm looking for. I know that the Denons can do it, but what about the new Yamaha's?

The only downside to Yamaha’s AirPlay implementation on these models is that you can’t use AirPlay itself to power on the receivers. That was definitely a neat trick with the Denon AVR-1913 I recently reviewed. The reason it’s not available here is because both of these receivers draw a minuscule 0.1 watt in standby mode—just enough to keep the IR receiver warmed up, but not enough to keep the device’s network connected and sniffing around for IP packets. Not sure if that review was referring specifically to AirPlay, but you can certainly turn on those models (473 and 573) from the Yamaha App as long as you've enabled Network Standby (which is not enabled by default). Then the receiver draws about 2W when "off" instead if 0.1W. I think the review may have missed that feature. I don't see any changes in that area from the 473 to the 475.

+1

I have no trouble turning on my 473 from Airplay or the Android App when Network Standby is enabled (note that only the Android App can turn it off, though). Whoever wrote that review has done the community a great disservice since I've seen that article quoted several times on this issue.

I have an old Yamaha RX-V740 which works well but does not have any HDMI connections, so yesterday I bought a RX-V475. I am not technically inclined, so I am having a hard time getting it to work as I would like. I have it connected to a Panasonic TH-C50FD18, which has a couple of HDMI connectors in the back and one in front. I connected the receiver to the TV, and the receiver to a DVD player, a PS3, an XBOX and an Apple TV via HDMI . Now whenever I turn off the TV the receiver shuts off as well, which I don't like. This is especially irritating when I listen to music via Apple TV and on the TV screen I scroll and pick tracks to listen to, then I would like to turn off the TV and just listen to the music, so the receiver shutting off is a problem. How can I turn the TV off without having the receiver shut off? I tried to go to the v475 set up to turn off the HDMi control, and then when I shut off the TV the receiver does not shut off, however, the music is interrupted for several seconds, as the receiver "seems" confused. I also could not use the PS3 controller until I went back and changed the HDMI control back to on. Does anyone know what I could do do fix the problem? I would be grateful for any advise.

Thank you

My HK receiver has finally had the HDMI board fuse issue so it's time to upgrade and I'm staying away from HK now. I bought the Marantz 5007 but the thing doesn't allow 7.1 AND zone 2 unless you use the zone2 pre-out and then you can't control volume. For that simple feature you have to move to the 6007 for a couple hundred more. So I'm looking at the RX-V775WA. It's got everything I'm looking for, 7.2 pre-outs, pre outs for Zone 2, plenty of HDMI, all the decoding, etc.

Does anyone know if the pre outs on the zone 2 allow the receiver to control volume? OR alternately, if I run the rear surrounds via pre-out and separate amp if it will actually pass the rear surround signal or if it passes zone 2 audio like the Marantz 5007?

Any other comments Marantz 6007 vs RX-V775WA?

Thanks!

As you're finding, HDMI brings with it a lot of problems you didn't have before.

The control issue can be solved by turning off HDMI control on all devices (receiver and TV). Then if you want one remote to control everything you have to buy something like a Harmony.

The brief sound drop-out when the TV is turned off is also common with HDMI. Not sure if there is a real solution, but one is to avoid using the TV to pick tracks (e.g. you can control stuff from an iPhone App).

Not what you wanted to hear, but maybe someone else has other ideas.

Not sure but I would shop around for 773 and save yourself some coin. I seen one the other day for 559.00 shipped...or pickup the a820 from newegg for 499.00!!

I picked up the rx-v675 from best buy for $460 (wrong tag, honored price). Will speakers 6 and 7 be better in presence mode or surround back mode? Looking to upgrade speakers and want to set them up properly as well.

If you're sitting very close to the back wall (which is to be avoided if possible) then there's no point using rear surrounds. But if you have 3 to 4 feet or more behind you, I would use surround backs instead of presence speakers. If you do that, your surrounds can be at ~90 degrees (directly at the sides or even slightly in front of that) rather than slightly behind you as they would be in a 5.1 setup. Then you can use Dolby PLIIx with 5.1 tracks to make use of the rear surrounds.

Thanks for the info. I will need to remount and set them up for presence then. I am "back against" the wall.
