Can we implement a rule where if you start the thread then you need to play that game on that system?

That said, I looked over to the Playstation area threads and found the BF4 thread. One post. Not looking very promising!
This is why I bought bf3 on Xbox instead of ps3. So much more activity on avs concerning battlefield.
That being said, I reserved a ps4 but I figure if I have a change of heart I can either return it to GS or sell it locally.
I'm fortunate to still be running a launch ps3 and a warranty replaced fat 360.
Its important to me also to stick with a good group of friends like on here. Heck I may even change my PC preorder to 360 if a good core group of people here stay 360. I guess when it gets closer to release we can iron out what system everyone is planning to play bf4 on....until then I'm planning playing bf3 tonight for some SKS trolling. I wish I could put a tac light on that thing.
You know what will be awesome? If Dice flips the D-pad commands in BF4 again for absolutely no reason.
Trail, I'm pretty sure you can put a tac light on the SKS :-p

My Jasper 360 is probably starting to feel its age, so I'm thinking about switching it with the wife's slim. I'm still on my original MGS4 PS3 hough it's really only used for blu-rays and netflix these days!

More multiplayer footage from the livestream event yesterday narrated by someone who sounds like they are falling asleep. Interesting stuff. New footage starts the 1:20 mark.
Oops didn't realize that...now I have a new metro setup with that gun, thanks!

I never played bf2, I'm interested in how much power the commander will have. From the footage you can call in different things based on what flags you have capped but I wonder what the recharge times are for those bonuses and can you remove the current commander if they suck?
I like the idea of gaining the squad perks as you get more points in a match. I wonder if you have any control of the order or if you can still equip one for starting out like bf3 and gain the others through gameplay points. Can't wait to see more and hear more
post #217 of 1755
I would love to read the rules on your server. You might have to refer them to a link as I dont think they would give you enough space to put them all.

You can call in things regardless of capped flags - they're just on a cooldown timer. You can vote to kick the current commander (it happened in the 2nd video I posted), but rarely does it succeed since most people either don't care or don't pay attention. The biggest gripe about commanders in BF2 was that they would call in artillery strikes on their own people. That's not as big of an issue in BF3/4 since normal mode has no friendly fire. But in the good ol' days of BF2, people actually died when they got run over by a teammate.
Trail what path do you think you'll be taking, platform-wise. I'm still undecided. Neither is a day 1 but I'll be on pc for sure.
Not sure yet, as of now I'm all over the place. Got a ps4 reservation for day 1, I'm thinking bf4 will already be out on PC and current gen when the new consoles drop though. I also have bf4 on PC reserved but no PC capable of running it as of now.

So I'm still doing a wait and see while saving money for either a new PC build in the fall, or ps4 purchase.

My gaming options for bf4 that will be influenced by peer pressure:
Xbox 360
PC
PS4
Xb1 seems to be out of the question now unless Lazy buys 2 and sends me the extra one.

Snake, how do you like bf3 on PC? Do you use m/kb for gunplay and controller for vehicles? Or m/kb all the way?

As far as buying vs building a PC.....there are some PCs out there that get very, very close to the price you'd pay if you built it yourself. This one particularly caught my eye:

http://www.ibuypower.com/Info/Revolt/customize.aspx

I built a PC very close to the midrange model there a few weeks ago, as long as you factor in the $99 for the OS....it's within $100 of what I paid, for basically the same thing. That's definitely worth it for someone inexperienced who isnt prepared to be their own tech support. Or for the really lazy. I take too much pride in my build to let someone else do it for me....but you're not going to get completely hosed on a prebuilt nowadays. Just make sure if youre buying a gaming PC, you buy it from a vendor that specializes in gaming PCs. On those "gaming PCs" Dell puts out, far too often they have an underpowered graphics card or too little RAM. You still need to do your research.

I am looking at pc first as soon as I can. Might be a month or two away though. After I do pc I don't know if I will be able to do a console at launch.

I don't think building a pc myself would be best plan for me as I have never done it before, and I am absolutely clueless about all things pc anyways.

The link above from bd2003 post is pretty much the only site I have researched so far. But I really don't know what I am looking at when comparing different pieces. Is that ibuypower store a good, legitimate store?

I don't think I am really concerned about form factor.

I am interested in creating videos, creating music and gaming. If I could also make it somewhat of a htpc then that would be a plus (an hdmi run to my avr would be about 40ft).

I should probably start a thread somewhere on AVS where I can get suggestions.

Where would be the best place to start this thread? Under the PC Gaming section?

The big reason I will be staying with MS is for LIVE. Family pack for me is $100/yr - 4 players. I really don't want to pay for 2 different online gaming services since I will have 4 360's for a few more years, and this is where most of my friends are. Obviously if everyone bails for PS4 world, I might change my mind, but more than likely I would stay anyway.

With MS going with an x86 based architecture, the games will still be very similar to PC until the PC's grow beyond the current hardware in a couple of years, then it will be similar to how it is now with the 360. Console versus console, as long as they are in the same neighborhood hardware wise, they will look the same and play the same. The PS4 hardware advantage will have a while to play out. The PS4 will no be doing anything that the XBone is not doing 6-8 years down the road and if it is, I guarantee that someone will be purchasing some new accessory (PS eye - Kinect) and the $100 will be a wash. Besides, there will be a XBone Arcade version for $299 in the spring that has a 120Gb hard drive and no Blu Ray or some such, probably.

DRM to me does not matter to me as I usually focus of multiplayer games. I only buy a couple of games per year and most of them that I have, have had their own DRM policy in place already. You could buy them used for the360 but had to pay extra for the online element. That does not seem to have changed other than all the crying. I remember the days of LAN parties where everyone had to have their own copy of a game. Not being able to rent games is not that big of a deal since the only game rental options in my town is RedBox and their game selection sux anyhow.

And remember...Sony's DRM free policy still only pertains to first party Sony games. All other studios are free to do what they want. Anyone care to guess which direction publishers like EA will go? And Sony is always willing to change its' mind like the PSN will always be free. How long did that last?

It also seems like the PS4 will be downloading in the background, even when in standby.

If the game producers will be quicker with the price drops or just lower the game cost since everyone will be buying new, it should increase their profits (which leads to more new games). I know this sucks for GameStop but it will be better for the game producers. I'm just not sure how it will affect gaming overall if the discount buyers disappear. It may get a little more lonely on some servers I do know that there will be more competition for who actually gets my $$$ if I have to spend full price every time I want to play a game. The game had better be worth it or I won't bother.

And what has SONY done that was superior to MS in the console world, other than the whole Blu ray thing? The only nice thing is some of their exclusives and while I hate that they are not cross platform, I am not going to buy a PS4 for just a couple of games. As far as I am concerned MS has wiped the floor with them for several years....hence I am posting in the Xbox BF4 forum. For all the "XBone is not for gamers" whining, MS does seem to be putting out a lot more effort for this generation of consoles.

I will not be playing on PC at all though. Too many hacks / cheaters, very few headset players or good ways to communicate or find friends, and long term gaming costs are too high. Of course I can offset the costs by stealing all of my games, but that is not me.

And Spyder, moaning over $100??? you are like the Bill Gates of MS points. You could sell your points and buy XBones AND PS4's for your whole family and still be able to buy Goonies and a copy of Bejeweled.

Lol. Not quite that many, but close! wink.gif

Ironically, my PS4 was paid for by MS. Their junky RRoD consoles traded in to GS have kept me and my family gaming for free for years (and still more to come) with an additional six figures+ in repairs for poor souls that suffered that fate.

Still, I imagine if I were to go into a car dealership with a MS salesman partnered with Kia, what would happen?

Dealer: "Looking at a Toyota Camry? That's a reliable, efficient, and highly-rated car from a trustworthy manufacturer...but check it out. We've got this really cool MS-brand Kia for just $100 more!"

Me: "Um, why would I want a Kia?"

Dealer: "It's got a bitchin hood ornament that knows your voice!"

Me: "Oooookaaay...when would I ever use that?"

Dealser: "All the time! Why use a key when you can use your voice? Isn't rolling down the window and yelling at the hood sooooo much more convenient than pushing a button to turn on the radio? (mumbles: Although you'd need to tell the ornament to roll down the window.) Isn't screaming at the ornament for the car to watch for live cars so much easier than opening your eyes? Isn't..."

Me: "Uh......what about engine size? Features? Gas mileage? Reliability? Crash rating?"

Dealer: "Bah. Those things don't matter when you've got a bitchin' hood ornament!"

Me: "Can you just answer the question, Claire?"

Dealer: "Okay, the Camry has 300 horses, the Kia has 20. The Camry comes with 7.1 surround, the Kia has a 1" mono speaker in the trunk. The Camry gets 40 mpg, the Kia gets 12. The Camry has a 10 year warranty, the Kia has a 10 day one. The Camry can withstand being sandwiched between two semis, the Kia was crushed by a baby with a toy hammer. BUT! THE! KIA! HAS! A! BITCHIN'! HOOD! ORNAMENT!!!"

Me: "Hmm. Any other things I should know about the MS Kia?"

Dealer: "The MS-brand Kia may or may not actually start when you tell the hood ornament to do so. It may or may not require you to drive to the dealership once a day to make it function. It may or may not be sold after you're done with it. It may or may not be driven by your wife or kid. It may or may not need to verify that the key was made in Taiwan before you start it up. It may or may not be sold in a few months without the ornament. Blah, blah, blah. Think of it as Schrodinger's Car!"

Me: "Wow."

Dealer: "I know, right?!?! All this for just $100 more! How many MS Kias with bitchin' hood ornaments can I put you down for?"

Me: "(N)one. Goodbye forever."

.Dude, you're WAY too hung up on the console specs. Until I seel some real world testing proving otherwise, I'm not convinced there is going to be a meaningful difference in performance.

Advocacy for buying neither:

I lol'ed several times, particularly about the extra proposed PS4 button. biggrin.gif
post #226 of 1755
Watched a vid from levelcap at e3 playing bf4. He said you will have control over the order of your squad perk progression bar. Also if everyone in your squad dies the progress resets to zero.

Saw another vid from xfactor and he said the vehicle disable mechanic has changed. Instead of percent health threshold its a damage location specific thing. So maybe a shot in the azz will be a disable but multiple hits from the front won't disable you, but you get destroyed at zero health.
He also said vehicles have magazines now. So say a tank has 5 shots of main cannon. Then you have to reload the magazine one round at a time causing a significant time delay. So no more tank round spamming it seems. Not really how some of this will translate to air vehicles though, doesn't seem as clear cut for jets or choppers.

Level cap said the chopper flying mechanics have changed some, at least for the transport. Transport felt more nimble but the controls are a little more difficult than bf3.

64 players and 60FPS has been confirmed on next Gen. 1080P has not yet:

If I had to wager a guess, with rumor of EA being moneyhatted by MS: XBone will run at 720P and PS4 at 1080P and they will not say anything until launch. (Thats if rumors of the XBone APU downclock are true I'd imagine)

I'm guessing they're waiting for final hardware, then they're just gonna raise the resolution as high as they can before the frame rate dips. It doesn't necessarily have to be to 720p or 1080p, it can come in anywhere and scale up.

I just hope it's 60 locked. I don't mind screen tearing like some people do, but if we can I'd love it to be a thing of the past.

Screen tearing occurs when the frame rate of the game exceeds the refresh rate of the monitor. All TVs are 60hz+ so a locked 60fps will never cause tearing.

as long as it is 60fps i don't care if it is 720 or 1080

M/kb cept when flying. Mouse is def better in tanks too. Especially being able to adjust the sensitivity whenever you want (mouse). I really haven't been playing it though, too many other things (chivalry in my only free time lol) going on.
Gotcha. I'm in the same boat. I'll probably build a pc either way and end up the ps4 a few months into the launch. Not really decided yet on which console though. I understand MS's direction just not their arrogance.
Butttt Right now I'm at around 80-90 games that I haven't even installed thanks to steam sales (and another summer sale soon) and humble bundles so BF4 will probably be my only day 1 purchase of the fall. Titanfall looks like my type of gameplay, butttt controller.

MPH i can give you a hand if you need some questions answered. If you are techy at all its really not that hard. Especially if you are the slightest bit OCD. Putting the MOBO in the case is the worst part of the entire process.
Computer parts lose value quick enough buying them on their own. I personally wouldn't buy a pre-built but i understand it.
I don't know how I feel about that map showcased at E3.

Edit- yeah Snake I'm really not anywhere close to techy. With people saying I could come within $100 by going prebuilt I definitely am considering that route. I'll start a thread somewhere soon looking for advice.

mph, I still say if you're going to go with a prebuilt, then you'd be best off looking at Lenovo's "refurb" sales. You'd likely only have to throw in a vid card and be done with it.

MPH - building a PC is like putting a puzzle together. You get all your pieces and just place them in their location. I was clueless on my first one but it went by much easier than I thought. The worst part for me was getting my cables not looking messy. Everything snaps into place where they need to go.

On that note, is it possible to build a gaming laptop? I cant find shells, maybe I am looking in the wrong spots, but I would think the shell would have to include the mobo and video card. Not sure. This would be a first for me if its possible.

Not for the timid. Ben Heck is a genius!

MPH the problem is that while yes when you scan the overall it looks like its within $100 but 99% you won't be able to get a comparable power supply, case, mobo and CPU cooling (possibly even/or an SSD) as you could for that 100$ less. Those details are where they make their money. Not saying you can't find a deal that isn't like that but the odds are low. Spyders refurb idea is a really good idea. Or just even a barebones from tiger that you buy a card seperate. By techy i just meant a steady hand for putting screws in a case. Either way. Get it done and buy chivalry.
ZATH HURRY UP!!! Hah it should be in the summer sale for cheap cheap. I use to be able to get Harp to play from time but I haven't seen him in awhile.
