The big reason I will be staying with MS is for LIVE. Family pack for me is $100/yr - 4 players. I really don't want to pay for 2 different online gaming services since I will have 4 360's for a few more years, and this is where most of my friends are. Obviously if everyone bails for PS4 world, I might change my mind, but more than likely I would stay anyway.
With MS going with an x86 based architecture, the games will still be very similar to PC until the PC's grow beyond the current hardware in a couple of years, then it will be similar to how it is now with the 360. Console versus console, as long as they are in the same neighborhood hardware wise, they will look the same and play the same. The PS4 hardware advantage will have a while to play out. The PS4 will no be doing anything that the XBone is not doing 6-8 years down the road and if it is, I guarantee that someone will be purchasing some new accessory (PS eye - Kinect) and the $100 will be a wash. Besides, there will be a XBone Arcade version for $299 in the spring that has a 120Gb hard drive and no Blu Ray or some such, probably.
DRM to me does not matter to me as I usually focus of multiplayer games. I only buy a couple of games per year and most of them that I have, have had their own DRM policy in place already. You could buy them used for the360 but had to pay extra for the online element. That does not seem to have changed other than all the crying. I remember the days of LAN parties where everyone had to have their own copy of a game. Not being able to rent games is not that big of a deal since the only game rental options in my town is RedBox and their game selection sux anyhow.
And remember...Sony's DRM free policy still only pertains to first party Sony games. All other studios are free to do what they want. Anyone care to guess which direction publishers like EA will go? And Sony is always willing to change its' mind like the PSN will always be free. How long did that last?
It also seems like the PS4 will be downloading in the background, even when in standby.
If the game producers will be quicker with the price drops or just lower the game cost since everyone will be buying new, it should increase their profits (which leads to more new games). I know this sucks for GameStop but it will be better for the game producers. I'm just not sure how it will affect gaming overall if the discount buyers disappear. It may get a little more lonely on some servers I do know that there will be more competition for who actually gets my $$$ if I have to spend full price every time I want to play a game. The game had better be worth it or I won't bother.
And what has SONY done that was superior to MS in the console world, other than the whole Blu ray thing? The only nice thing is some of their exclusives and while I hate that they are not cross platform, I am not going to buy a PS4 for just a couple of games. As far as I am concerned MS has wiped the floor with them for several years....hence I am posting in the Xbox BF4 forum. For all the "XBone is not for gamers" whining, MS does seem to be putting out a lot more effort for this generation of consoles.
I will not be playing on PC at all though. Too many hacks / cheaters, very few headset players or good ways to communicate or find friends, and long term gaming costs are too high. Of course I can offset the costs by stealing all of my games, but that is not me.
And Spyder, moaning over $100??? you are like the Bill Gates of MS points. You could sell your points and buy XBones AND PS4's for your whole family and still be able to buy Goonies and a copy of Bejeweled.
