Battlefield 4 - Page 26

Last night I had no problem turning it off and walking away. It really feels like Battlefield 3.3

Can't remember if it was through the "my soldier" section or through the "battlelog" (select/back button) screen.

Nex and I were trying to figure out how to "squad up" before a match but there didn't seem to be a way to do it. We just had to join a game off each other.

From what I remember, the BF3 beta had its own set of problems but it was much more polished and addicting than the BF4 beta.

I'm not going to delete the beta it in case someone wants to hook up and play but I don't really see myself playing too much with randoms. I may give GTA online tonight unless someone sends me an invite to play.

If any of you all have GTA V and are on the PS3, gimme a holler if you want to team up for some online GTA madness...

Ugh, that sucks. Pinning down the the other team in their spawn makes the game so incredibly boring. I was hoping that wouldn't be the case this time around.

anyone else feel like the destruction has been a step backwards since BC2, in that game it felt like everything was destructible.. now only certain things are..

Well it looks like I'm going to have to find a new controller setup due to bf4 not having the same combination I use in bf3. I'll probably spend two weeks in the "training mode" to relearn how to fly jets and choppers and drive tanks. Its more the button setup I used in bf3 that isn't the same in bf4 beta which really sucks.
Trying to spot got me killed a bunch since I would bring up a dang menu and freeze my player. I didn't realize how much I spotted in bf3 until now.
Agreed, why they moved spotting and entering exit vehicles from B to X i do not understand....

I don't understand why they changed any of it. Are there some new functions that required them to shift things around, or was it just change for change's sake?

The DS4 controller does not have a select button so obviously they cannot use that as a spot button. I know I am in the minority here but I actually prefer the new controls scheme for your soldier and the vehicles. No more having to either contort your hand or take your hand off the analog stick all together to spot while running. flying, or driving.

The only thing I changed was the button layout for your soldier and made that vet so the crouch/prone was back to clicking the R stick and the melee is on the B button which matches up with most other FPS games. I already used the alternate flight scheme in BF3 which is now the default scheme in BF4 so I am good there.

Also, I said it in the other thread so I'll say it here. You can disable the select button bringing up the battlelog page when in game. Just go to options and under the second tab towards the bottom there is an option to hide in-game battlelog or something like that. When you hide this hitting the select button does nothing at all while in game.

true but not you have to contort your hand and take your finger off your stick when firing countermeasures. So basically you're being chased by an enemy jet so you're forced to fly straight for a few seconds and release flares?! Talk about an advantage to your pursuer!

Also last night flares didn't seem to work against all stingers...

I used the alternate flight control scheme in BF3 which is now the default scheme in BF4. With that scheme the LB fires your counter measures so I am good there.

I forgot about both next gen systems losing their start and select buttons so it makes sense why all this changed. I think veteran on all settings worked pretty good. I don't mind new settings but its a cold b$%&* trying to learn new habits.

Lo must have been laughing his @&& off last night when I was driving the tank. Try to shoot end up in reverse...try to deploy countermeasures end up moving forward.... Got blown up several times sitting there because I clicked shoot but it was the new reverse. Got killed a few times because of hold to exit as well.

Probably won't spend too much more time with the Beta. Felt like a BF3 map pack, which isn't horrible, but I don't feel like they're able to showcase much with this on the current console. It's cool to be able to take that building down but the actual visual effect of it was quite underwhelming. All the goodies show up (I hope) on the next gen console and pc.
And switching the buttons to enter/exit vehicles is as annoying as switching the paddles etc on the dpad for no good reason. Someone should lose their gawd damned job over that one! wink.gif

Its not a deal breaker on the button change, but it does suck having to relearn a new layout after playing the previous version of the same game for two years. At a minimum let us pick the same layouts available in bf3. Or better, let us remap to our liking.

I totally felt like a noob in my first hour playing, from no life bucket col 100 to noob that can't exit a chopper that a random is flying because the new exit vehicle button has changed. Oh well it just going to take a little time adjusting.

FYI if you're in a tank on the street near the building while its falling, you will die. I also died in a chopper near the top of the building when it fell, it looked like I was clear from my POV.

BD, have you tried it yet? I remember you saying bf3 was a no go due to how you use the analog sticks and I am curious if the beta is the same.

Nah, I DLed it but haven't fired it up yet. A patch came around the 2nd or 3rd DLC that finally added deadzones and it's been fine for me since then...I just don't understand how something so simple took that long. I hope they haven't regressed.

I guess it's still a beta so it's not too late to just add a "BF3" control mapping. I never really got into BF3 like I did BC2, but even months into it I still found myself hitting the wrong direction for the medkit.

I would be surprised if we can't assign buttons on next gen.

It's really pretty ridiculous this isn't a standard feature at this point.
Just a couple of observations when I briefly played. The starting med kit is small compared to bf3. It can only refill one person's health at a time. I was throwing one in the direction of a very squad mate and it kinda homed in on my squad mate, it curved towards him in flight.

I think the stating ammo is the same, but not positive on that. I do know a squad mate threw down an ammo pack and another player ran over it and it disappeared, like he picked it up.

Just tried it, the analog sticks seem fine, and overall it seems way more polished than the bf3 beta. But what is the deal with the graphics? It looks awful! It's so flat, everything is white...looks like it's almost completely untextured.
Think there are later unlocks that have stationary med and ammo kits - not 100% sure though as I didn't see it in the customize soldier options. Could see them leaving it the way it is.

Edit: Just looked at the kit loadouts on battlelog and the stationary ammo pack is the 4th unlock for support. They only show 4 unlocks, so I'm sure the med pack is an unlock for assault.

Someone else pointed out this is sans HD texture pack so that will account for a lot.

Nah you know what it was? I had jumped into my first match after the skyscraper had collapsed, so everything was caked in dust. Not that it looked that much better with a fresh start, the textures looked good, but the frame rate seems to drop a lot more and there were jaggies everywhere....but I'm not playing it on current gen anyway. It should look awesome on next gen.

The UI seems radically improved and I don't mind most of the infantry control changes (although I hate the new vehicle controls). Other than that it feels exactly like BF3, I'm not mad at that.
Oh I'm not upset at the horrendous looks either. I know its beta on current gen but its still flat uuuuuggly as it is today. Look out at the rest of the city, that encourages me that next gen will look amazing and that is what matters.

Sorry MPH but I need to put my PC playing on the back burner. I went to a buddies house today who finished his man cave and I fell in love with his TV's. 3 Panasonic ZT plasmas. He had 1 65 and 2 60's. I was in heaven. After he showed me a few movies I turned on the video games and I fell in love all over again. So I think I am going to shop around and order one. Not sure which size to get yet. I currently have a pioneer 5020 and didnt think I could of been as impressed as I was. He is getting them calibrated next week so I cant wait to see it after that. 4g is a lot to swallow but I figure what better way to start off the next gen with a bigger TV.
Well you guys are confirming every reason I had for not touching the beta. I'll hold out until I can see the game in all its glory.

Lazy - I like the way you think. Bust out and get that new set. I've been gearing up for next gen too. Got new speakers and sub, and getting a receiver tonight to complete my office revamp. Partytime.

Indeed... after all this is the AVS forum. smile.gif

Thanks for the early beta play reports. I too am looking forward to getting away from PC MMO gaming for awhile and back to running on a big screen.

I scored a multi-kill the first day which seemed like a big deal, until I realized that it counts for nothing. frown.gif

I couldn't disagree more, though in some ways, I'm glad that the beta was so unimpressive and dull to me. More to look forward to later on, gives me time to play better games the next few weeks and work on backlog, etc. Unless some AVSers want to get on to do some serious shenanigans, I doubt I'll play it ever again.
