I currently am using a 3rd party wifi adapter to utilize networking functions - Pandora, Internet Radio, IControl AV2012.
These functions work great!
HOWEVER Sometimes the Airplay Icon is invisible and I CAN NOT stream my music to the 1522 from any IOS device.
It seems the airplay icon is visible when the 1522 is powered off - does this make sense?
If the AVR is ON most times I get no Airplay Icon, but the issue is variable.
Some have said I would be better off hardwiring the router to the 1522.
It seems strange I ONLY have Airplay issue but no other networking functionality issues.
All of my other streaming devices on my network always work 100% of the time, so this is rather frustrating
Question:
Is this an Apple or Wifi adapter issue?
Am I missing something really simple or stupid that is causing this Airplay icon to not work 100% of the time?
Will Hard Wiring the Apple Air Extreme Router directly to 1522 and getting rid of the Wifi Adapter help resolve?

Any advice or similar sentiments much appreciated.

Hey everyone, I no longer seem to have enhanced sound settings for DD/DTS 5.1+ content after speaker calibration. However, settings such as NEO THX are still available with 2.0 content. With 5.1+, I only have THX Cinema/Games.. .. Is this normal?

How high can I turn up the volume on this receiver? I have 400W capable speakers and want to drive them but don't want to put strain on the receiver.

Is there any way to access the media features from a mac or pc rather than having to use a phone app or the tv?

If you have a PC (Win7 and later), you can easily using 'Play To' feature to control what media is played through the receiver via DLNA. For Mac, you can use AirPlay. There is no need for an app for media playback.

The max volume is around +12db. But there is no direct relation to how loud that can be (it depends on source and speakers). The receiver is rated maximum 720w for 9-ch driven and 130w per channel @8ohm. The amp has over current protection built-in.

I would suspect that airplay works similar to bubble upon on android. This app will turn on the receiver, civil the volume and of course you choose the song from your phone or device or even from your PC. So since it turns the device on maybe that is why you can see the option for airplay?

For the intermediate issues, check another ios device at the same time if you have one. Also if you can see if you can long the receiver or if you can let it on from the app etc. In other words make sure the 2 devices are communicating.

quick follow-up, this appears to only be an issue after calibrating with MCACC. I did a factory reset and all modes were available again before redoing my MCACC setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here are the modes that are missing in multichannel

What settings are you missing. Can you post screen shots from the app shooting input and it out under the info tab on the main square. Lastly can you post the different sound modes available in the app?

What is your speaker setup? 5.1 or 7.1?
If I hit the THX button on the front of the receiver when mutli channel audio is coming in, I only have access to THX Game, THX Cinema and THX Music. Prior to setting up auto MCACC, I had all of the modes available with multi channel audio (Neo X, Pro Logic II , etc..). However, I still have the "advanced" modes when 2.0 channel audio is running. I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere but not exactly sure where to start. I can't see any mention of this in the manual.

My speaker setup is 5.1. I tried setting 5.1 with zone2 and 7.1 in the speaker settings but getting the same thing.

If your speaker setup is 5.1, the processing you listed missing are normal because those are only available to you in 7.1 or higher setup IIRC. The missing processing modes. Neo X and Pro Logic II, are mostly used for convert lesser channels (2.0 or 5.1) to your speaker settings (6.1, 7.1 or 9.1).

Dolby Pro Logic IIx modes are for 7.1 setup. Dolby Pro Logic IIz are for 9.1 setup. For 5.1 setup, you will probably only saw Dolby Pro Logic II from 2.0 source.

You can't fake a 7.1 setup with only 5.1 speakers if you use MCACC calibration because it will detect no output from the missing two channels.

ahh, bummer. Thanks for the feedback on this. Looks like I'll need to add two additional speakers :/ What's odd is that modes such as THX EX which the manual states "allows you to hear 6.1/7.1 sources through 5.1" is also not available.

with all the different sound modes, which ones are best for a 9.1 setup? I mainly watch movies, game a little, and some music.

Also, i see the options of front high and front wide. which one is better and how do i turn them on?
also is there an explanation on the different surround settings, DTS, NEO, THX to explain the differences and what they do? Maybe i should read the manual... lol

Has anyone successfully used a Galaxy S4 in the front MHL port?

I saw some posts about requiring an adapter. Will this tip adapter work with the included Pioneer MHL cable?

HDTV Adapter Tip (5 to 11 Pin Converter)

Has anyone used these HDMI adapters? The MHL 2.0 version appears to allow a higher power level thru the adapter for better charging. Does the SC-1522-K's front MHL HDMI port pass power through a standard HDMI cable or do you need the Pioneer MHL cable?

I believe Samsung sells a MHL 2.0 cable, I've seen it on Amazon. I haven't bought it as yet.....

I am having sound problems:
I have had this receiver for about 6 months, no problems until last week. I was watching netflix thru my TV, which activates the ARC option and sends sound back thru the HDMI to the receiver. When I switched back to regular DVR (AT&T U-verse) or PS3 I get no sound thru the receiver. The only sound I get now is from either netflix thru the tv or tuner.

I have gone into the tv (Sharp) and even turned off ARC and made several adjustments and nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions? Thanks

i have SC-1522 bought from Costco deal. i was beginning to like everything about it, and faced an issue last night. front display went dark, and comes up only on any action from remote, i.e. incr/decr volume or change source or change audio format etc etc. but as soon as such an action is complete, display turns dark once again... i checked 'front display' = ON/OFF, and checked with ON and OFF both, no effect on front display. has anyone faced such an issue? any inputs?

thanks in advance..
You may have accidentally turned on pure audio mode which turns off the front panel.
RESOLVED. someone must have mistakenly clicked 'dimmer' button on remote.

I think you have to turn ARC off on the receiver.

I'm running a 5.1 setup and not sure why my Xbox 360 is louder than my PS3 and xfinity X1. -30 on the 360 is about -18 on the other devices. My old 1019 ran them all at the same volume level which was around -30. Any thoughts on why I have such a discrepancy between inputs? It seems weird I have to turn it up so much.

Are you using the exact same source material?

New problem - looking for suggestions: The network functions stall after a while "...Connecting..." - no response - includes Pandora, internet radio, Media Services or Favorites. I have used all of those successfully in the past. Constantly re-booting the receiver (every few hours of use). Unplug it for 15 seconds, then all is well again. Here is a typical scenario; Listening to Pandora, switched to Media Services (PC), unit stalled and was in "...Connecting..." for some time. After a minute, I tried other network functions - nothing. Have to shut down, unplug receiver and start it back up to reboot. Then its all hooked up again normally. Running a 3rd party wi-fi adapter to communicate with ATT wi-fi router. Could this be a bandwidth issue? There is something in the manual about making sure the connection is via 100BASE-TX, not sure what that is. Any suggestions??? rolleyes.gif

Same situation here with my wireless ATT set top box. Have to run it 10 dB louder than all other input sources...BUT, last night for the FIRST time, there was an announcement for an upcoming movie on Showtime, that almost blasted me out of my chair, then back to muted level....HUH????

I'm guessing it is an issue between your AT&T wi-fi and your 3rd party wi-fi adapter. I have mine hard wired and never encoutered that in the couple times I've used the network function. Next time, insted of restarting the receiver, try rebooting the router.
Your router may be dropping the connection.

The 100BASE-TX suggestion assumes you are using a hardwired connection and to make sure that everything that is hardwired into your network is connected using a 100BASE (1000BASE would be best if you have it). This way, you have a better chance that everything connected can get their data. If you were using 10BASE and had numerous devices trying to pull down data all at the same time, everything would slow down because your max total data transfer (everything added up) would be 10 Mbps and would cause streaming delays (Think of trying to stream 4 videos simultaneously over a 56k internet connection).

On the Wi-Fi side, if you are connected using "g" or "n", you should be alright if you're streaming music. Video can get choppy depending on your Wi-Fi setup/environment.

On your AT&T setup box, check to see if there is an setting under the Audio Options that let you set the audio to Fixed rather than variable.
That should set the volume level to be the same across all the channels.
