Yeah, it wouldn't make much sense. They made it sound like the doctors were examining "Beth" in her sleep, but since they were really examining Sarah, they should have discovered easily that she wasn't Beth. Then again, the whole Paul-"Beth" relationship hasn't been played all that realistically to date, either. He should have known Sarah wasn't Beth far sooner than this; after all, it only took Kira a few seconds to make the connection that Alison wasn't Sarah. Yes, Sarah is a better actor than Alison, but if Paul has been observing Beth for months or years before the series started, he wouldn't have been fooled by Sarah for this long. Then again, the same applies to Art. I guess we're just supposed to assume that the doctors either somehow didn't notice that Beth's scar was missing, or they did notice and instead of blowing the whistle, they're now testing Paul as much as they're testing Sarah. All of these shows require some suspension of disbelief when it comes to clones/twins impersonating each other. Thankfully, Orphan Black hasn't asked us to do it as much as 'Ringer' did.

I'd be pretty surprised if the purpose of the examination was to sterilise her. I assumed the clones were genetically engineered to be infertile, just as most GMO seeds are designed that way.
