Yes - that they and the Oscars tend to zero in on US productions far more than overseas ones. It's always been that way and likely always will be.
The fact is, if they chose Orphan Black, they'd get ripped apart by far more people than if they chose someone from a show like Mad Men, breaking Bad or some other hit US production.
Granted, now and again even the Oscars surprise us with a nod for something like "Tender Mercies", but that's likely a makeup call for blowing it by choosing "It Goes Like it Goes" over "Rainbow Connection". Most of the time, it's all about hype in regards to overrated material like "Crash".
The Emmy's are no different in that regard.
They make the save pick that they know most people will at least be OK with rather than the risky pick where some will be very happy, but many will be upset their favorite didn't win over something they never heard of.
That's award shows for you. If you base any importance on them in regards to the quality of a show, you'll very likely find disappointment.Edited by NetworkTV - 12/13/13 at 5:45am
