That's actually not an uncommon way for some detailers to clean the inside of a car before the shop vac it out.
The stuff in a car is actually pretty robust when it comes to getting wet. The connections are usually either butt connectors or molex plugs, which are exactly like those used on motorcycles. Don't forget, the same setups are used for convertables, which have to stand up to idiots who leave the top down in driving rain storms.
The only place that's really vulnerable to water on a car (assuming nothing is broken, rotted, open when it shouldn't be or falling apart) is the air intake.
