So, these are the ideas I have going on right now:
- NU3000DSP in biamp mode
- 20 Hz HP filter
- Speakon jacks wired to pins 1+ and 1-
- Each DVC385 wired in parallel for a 4 ohm load to the amp
Any correction, suggestion or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Note: The receiver is an ONKYO 818 with two sub outputs(same as a Y-Adapter) so stereo mode in the iNuke may be an option? Would I lose the ability to tweak each sub separately?
You could use your connectors but you will need to see if they have a gasket for them..
For the nu3000 I am running in Dual mono, I guess you could use stereo..we should see what some other more knowledgable users say on this.. I think you should use Dual mono..
I am still learning too.. I just built my first DIY Sub bit only have 1 sub..
The amp is over 800w per channel 4 ohm load so I would set the peak limiter to your Ohms and 575w max..
I will run a model in Winisd and see what we come up with..here is the model I came up with in Win ISD:
Driver CVD385-88
Volume = 161.60L
tuning = 20.42
Vents = Round 4" Vent length 11.34" Flared both ends..
Filter 2nd order Highpass Butterworth 20hz
System power 575W reached xmax.. perhaps lower the wattage a bit or be carefull when testing watching for clipping..
You specs for the Driver indicate it is an 8 ohm load?? you are going to go 4ohms, I guess it is a dual 4 ohm and the way you are going to wire it makes it a 4ohm ????

I believe I saw that recommendation about the connectors and gasket somewhere, must have been in your thread. Will get those if mine don't work.
You are completely right about dual mono. I already have two RCA to XLR cables as the one you suggested so I would just connect each receiver output to each amp input and be done with it.
For my first project, I'm going sealed to keep it simple. I know this may limit my LF output level but at least I'm going for two subs. In the future I may decide for a third or completely redo the design to a ported enclosure. There is a build by ack_bk which I'm practically copying for these.
I will also look into the peak limiter function, any suggestions for a sealed enclosure (outer dimensions 21x18x21).
The woofer is a Dual Voice Coil(DVC) which, if I understand correctly, measures 8 Ohms at each pair of posts but since it has two you can wire them in series or parallel for 16 or 4 Ohms respectively. My main doubts in that respect where about pin out for the jack and the amp mode which you already cleared out for me.
I calculated about 85 liters or ~3.0 cubic feet. With those measures WINISD gives me:
Transfer Function Magnitude
Transfer Function Magnitude - No HPF
Max SPL
Cone Excursion
Cone Excursion - No HPF
Impedance
I understand tune freq would apply if the sub was vented. I should be reaching 102 DB Max SPL with just one sub at 20 Hz, I guess 105 with the two of them in a 13' x 17' x 8' room
If you are going to be watching a lot of movies, I do like the 165L @ 20.5 Hz box model for this. You could go a little smaller like 140L @ 22 Hz since you are having a HPF at 20 Hz. Those are some big boxes though. How big of a room are you looking at?
Also, with the models I've been doing, with that iNuke 3000 you are getting 500W RMS per channel, you are going to get major chuffing with a single 4" port. Or at least sims say you should. 3x 3" ports or 2x 4" ports works better.
