G.I. Joe Retaliation 3D

My girlfriend really wanted to go watch this one as she enjoyed the first movie. I thought the first one was really bad, so I wasn't too thrilled to go into this one, however the 3D was the reason I agreed to go, even though I wasn't expecting much from it considering it was done after the fact.

To my surprise, the 3D in this is quite fun, there's a surprising amount of pop out, especially during the ninja mountain scene. And during the opening credits. You definitely get your money's worth there. I strongly recommend watching the 3D version, otherwise the film itself is really nothing to get excited about.

I went to see this a few days ago and felt the 3D was done very well. The movie was just ok IMHO, but I really enjoyed the 3D presentation.

I also recommend watching it in 3d vs 2d.

A couple of scenes use the 3D in neat ways, mainly the opening credits and the ninja battle on the mountain. However, for most of the movie I felt it was superfluous at best and added nothing to the movie. Considering that the screening I saw was quite dim and had incredibly flat colors through the 3D glasses, I think I would have enjoyed the movie more in 2D.

Bigscreen IMAX has it in 3D. I would like to go see it since it's hard to replicate that quality at home (although I'm trying). But I didn't see the first one, only the cartoons as a kid. Is it the kind of movie where you need to see them in order?

The new movie consciously distances itself from the last movie (which was an unwatchable p.o.s.) as much as possible. Some characters and plot-points carry over, but they're all helpfully recapped at the opening.
