I guessed when there were no real reviews that this game wasn't going to be great, but I went ahead and picked up the pre-order anyway. It's not a great game by any stretch of the imagination, but it fits the bill. I like games (even if they are mediocre) that allow me play single player and progress through a story & actually finish it and then trade it back or give it away. This is one of those type of games. It puts me in mind of the Captain America movie game--pretty meh, but I got a sense of accomplishment from actually completing it.
Glitches do abound. I had to restart a checkpoint in the introductory mission (basically an action packed tutorial) because Spock had to be with me for the cutscene to start, but he disappeared (literally). Once I restarted the checkpoint and he reappeared and followed me to the correct spot, only then did the cutscene commence and I was able to proceed. Small things like that are pretty much the order of the day for this game.
Graphics aren't bad--they just aren't Tomb Raider/Bioshock Infinite level. Again, if you think of the Marvel movie games from 2-3 years ago (Capt. America, Thor, Ironman) with a little more polish and shine, that should give you an idea of what it looks like. This shouldn't be a spoiler, but so far, there has been an on-rails sequence where you kinda' sorta control the Enterprise and that was fairly good-looking, but so far, this is a by-the-numbers, over-the-shoulder, 3rd person shooter.
This game is definitely NOT worth full price; it is at best a rental or picking it up @ 19.99 or lower, but I already know that I want Dragon's Crown, so I'll finish this one (assuming there are no game ending glitches like there were in LoTR: War in the North), see if it is feasible to Platinum, and then trade it in fairly quickly and put the entire trade in value on Dragon's Crown ($39.99). A two-for-one, as it were.Edited by shadowlock - 4/24/13 at 8:07pm
