Nicks in the edges of discs.

I have been combing through my collection and sometimes come across what look like nicks/cracks on the edge of a disc.

This seems to occur more in digipacks.

no, they came that way from the factory.

I've a few discs, where the outer edge isn't smooth, but can't recall any cracks.

RE: Nicks in the edges of discs.

Most of my bd rentals come that way.

Think it'll lead to rot?

The nicks don't penetrate and are only on the outer edge.

Might be a good idea to exchange them or make backups, just in case.

The discs are between 2 and 4 years old, my guess is they would have rotted by now.

I think I'm fine.

I've decided that the nicks I found on some of my Blu Ray Discs will never lead to rot.
BRDs and DVDs are very different in composition. BRDs are two super thin alloy discs stuck on a plastic disc.
They aren't alloy sandwiched between two plastic discs like DVDs are.

So, a nick on the side of the discs rim will never lead to anything.
