Da Vinci's Demons Starz HD Premier April 12, 2013

I accidentally got wind of this today and it looks pretty interesting .. STARZ must not be putting much promotion into it

http://www.starz.com/originals/davincisdemons

In a world where thought and faith are controlled, one man fights to set knowledge free.

The secret history of Leonardo da Vinci's tantalizing life reveals a portrait of a young man tortured by a gift of superhuman genius. He is a heretic intent on exposing the lies of religion. An insurgent seeking to subvert an elitist society. A bastard son who yearns for legitimacy with his father.

He finds himself in the midst of a storm that has been brewing for centuries. A conflict between truth and lies, religion and reason, past and future. His aspirations are used against him by the opposing forces of the time—luring him into a game of seduction where those who despise his intellect need him most.

Leonardo must take up the fight against foes who use history to suppress the truth. A hero armed only with genius,
da Vinci stands alone against the darkness within, and the darkness without.

Facing an uncertain future, his quest for knowledge nearly becomes his undoing as he explores the fringes of his own sanity. Da Vinci throws himself into his genius and emerges as an unstoppable force that lifts an entire era out of darkness and propels it into light.

His story becomes a mirror into our own world, calling us all to join his fight to Free the Future.

From David S. Goyer, Co-Writer The Dark Knight Rises Trilogy and Man of Steel.

I've seen a few press promos for this and they've been running ads on some networks.

I don't have Starz but this is also premiering on Encore so I'll catch the pilot. I have a feeling it's going to be similar to the Tudors.

Yeah, what kind of peaked my interest was Groyer ..

I'm thinking that some secret societies, anti-Church material and the like gets thrown in .. it looks like the production values should be pretty high ..

I'm sure STARZ is looking for something to replace Spartacus ..

I'm hoping for a split from history and we see more ingenious machines and some Del Toro style fantasy sequences.

Looking forward this one!

For some reason, this reminds me of this movie from last year:

If it's as good as that movie, STARZ will have a hit ..

Watched the first hour and dumped it.

The on-screen Leonardo stretched my Suspension of Disbelief waaaay too far.rolleyes.gif

This "Leonardo" me of Joseph Fiennes playing Shakespeare in Shakespeare in Love.

Haven't watched it yet. But if I like it I won't post. Don't feel liked being attacked by all of the negative posters on this forum in every tv thread.

I won't be one of them. I went in with low expectations, but found it to be better than I had thought it would be. I could quibble about a few things (a couple dialogue anachronisms for example). but I'll give it a few more eps. I kept thinking THE BORGIAS Lite...although that might be due to the show taking place in the same era. (There's one spoiler in the show for BORGIAS fans, although it may not be so for history buffs.)

Same here. I enjoyed it much more than I anticipated.

Hmmmmm, not sure about this, will give it a couple episodes to see. His flying bird and what it did was a little hard to believe.

I've tried to watch this twice, but keep falling asleep after 20 minutes. Since I was awake both before and after watching other shows, I've got to think my brain is telling me something. I usually like quasi-historical costume epics, but since I can't stay awake, I couldn't tell you what's wrong with it.

Ok, 3rd time was the charm, stayed awake and then watched last night's ep. Generally, I like how the story is shaping up. Leo's a bit too much like Batman w/o the billions, but it's entertaining. The surrounding conspiracy and characters are well drawn and interesting. I'll keep watching.

It was a bit over the top but it is also clever and has amazing beautiful graphics and locations. I'll keep with it for a while.

I think we can depend on this staple. Leo needs to build a machine, but he gets sidetracked on his mysterious quest. Deadline approaches, we never see him work on it, then demo day, we either get a spectacular success or failure. Only 2 eps to go on, but I see a pattern w/the metal bird and the weapon.

I hope that isn't the pattern. It is annoying to see him just plan things and never have to worry about construction. Must be nice to just crap out ideas and finished results just like that.

If anyone missed it, the wide-eyed young assistant is Niccolo Machiavelli. Yes, that one.

Not doubting you, but what's your reference?

This one... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niccolo_Machiavelli

While you very well could be right (since that's the way these shows go), there's nothing in the wiki link or on imdb that gives that tidbit away.

Thought the second episode was pretty except for the continual switching between Florence and Venezia.
These cities are like the distance between DC and New York. Have been on a train between those cities and it takes a nice chunk of the day.

Only a three hour train ride....not that big a chunk.

Yeah, I've watched the trailer and it looked pretty good .. with "Black Sails" over and now "Da Vinci" and GOT getting ready to crank up, DVR will be getting a workout ..

I missed Season 1 of Da Vinci's Demons so have been recording the marathon reruns today. So far, I have watched the first couple of episodes and enjoyed them. Not only is any show with Lara Pulver a good thing by definition, I am enjoying some of the other performances, too. With Black Sails over for the season, I need a new source of swashbuckling and treachery. So far at least Da Vinci's Demons has filled the bill nicely.
