NCAA Super PQ Tonight

Thread Starter
I am viewing the NCAA Final Four game, Syracuse, vs Michigan from my local CBS affiliate and Directv. The PQ tonight via Directv seems absolutely stunning.

PQ Is not good on WCBS-DT (1 SD Sub Channel) NYC on FiOS.

There are digital compression artifacts on the players and on the graphics.
When the camera pans the video gets grainy.

Agree, WCCO in Minneapolis, plenty of digital artifacts.  Basketball always seems tough for CBS for some reason.

If you are still watching this on a 4:3 Center cut on the old analog TV, the player carrying the ball down the court is often so far to the edge of the widescreen he's often unseen on the 4:3 feed.

CBS might intend for the games to be seen letterboxed on a 4:3 set. The CBS O&O around here has used AFD for at least the last year and a half and most network programming is set to display letterboxed rather than center-cut (news programming might be the only content set to center-cut, but I'd have to check up on that).

The graphics would be 16:9 if CBS wanted it to be letterboxed. Most cable co's center cut and don't letterbox.

Agreed.

Pq was gorgeous, but it seemed to be best from the
Center court camera probably situated near the top of the lower
Level seating.

It sure did pop though!

When I see a video transmission that clean and sharp
that it makes me want to go back and replay,
I become a very happy boy

WCBS-DT FiOS TV NYC

Listening to a stereo down mix by my HDTV's speakers the announcers are being drowned out by the arena sounds.

Depends on the affiliate. Ours which is NexStar, their CBS channel is just full of noise, and not even what I would call HD, when it comes to sporting events. Cannot wait to see what it looks like with the Masters this coming weekend.

Same deal here. PQ looks great though.

PQ just awful for the championship game here on Comcast San Francisco. The picture breaks up with just about any camera movement. Makes me wish the came was on ESPN, TNT, or Comcast Sports Net - anything other than CBS. Very disappointing.

Looks great here in Atl on Comcast...

PQ on CBS5 San Francisco via Comcast tonight was horrible...tons of blurring for the entire broadcast. I hope that they figure it out before the Masters this weekend! Not happy...well except for the fact that I had Louisville -4...

That's right. My local CBS station is not very good. They downgrade their picture to 720p and it's somewhat compressed on top of that.
