I have the display 3 resting against the top half of the plasma, warmed up and the white balance seemed to read properly. Also, when I go to 100% colors they are out of whack as well green 101% off??

I think CNET got a reading of 10.6 FL for full screen white.

All them calibration controls and no one can make it look half decent lol.

Its a shame, I too like the extra brightness, especially when gaming.

That is debatable depends on what you define as decent if your sole criteria is brightness then maybe, the VT60 calibrates very well from the reports I have seen

I would quite happily concede a little accuracy for been able to use panel lum HIGH, Especially for day time viewing on a sunny day.

Why put LUM HIGH in there if it can't be used to an acceptable level?

I already did the 100 hours though, and its still pretty manic as you call it. I'm wondering if its a bad panel or if its pretty certain it would go away. Looked at an st60 yesterday and it had no scan lines in the black.

I bought a 55 inch vt60 for 1560 euro's

actually i bought a vt50 for that price but it had a dead pixel. When Panasonic came to replace it, they gave me a vt60 instead.
also they said i could keep the glasses that came with the vt50 and they worked on the vt60.

i guess im lucky huh ^^

I think Chad talked about it in his VT60 review.

After reading all your complaints, I feel that I will wait until next year to upgrade Granted I know this is complaints and not many compliments on the set. I just got my first plasma in February ( VT 50 55" ). I was going to upgrade just because I want a 60" or 65". Been looking at the ZT and VT60. But my VT 50 has no fan noise , beautiful picture, got it for 1700, figure they will have all issues worked out by next year.

i did upgrade from from 55vt50 to 65vt60..AND no fan noise.no issues like talked here. There are lots of vt60 sold so u see few complaints.
Its nothing new. Plasmas buzz a little bit in pute white scenes, and yes, the fan noise is there when audio is on mute.

Nothing to be concerned about IMO. If you are looking for the best picture on the market, this is it. Def worth the upgrade.
Honestly How many people who complain of fan noise or buzz mention if there unit was wall mounted or on stand,Distance from walll etc. That might clarify more noise to some and not others. my tv is on stand NO noise at all muted or not compared to my vt50 etc.... Well, litle fan noise muted sometimes depends on how long its been on but in secounds its gone and very little noise..idk

2 ****** Cell phone pics, but you get the point. Also gotta point out my new faucet....... love them both...... not equally......

Yeah i dont get it either unless you plan on using your tv for a computer monitor
The VT60 is the best set on the market besides the ZT which is premium

This is AVS - we will find something wrong with next year's 2014s - guaranteed. Regardless of manufacturer. Show me a display that hasn't had a problem with it pointed out by a member in the last 8 years. Clouding, dithering, ABL, blooming, banding, image retention, buzzing, fan noise (new for this year), floating blacks, vertical lines. Green blobs, red blinking light of death - you get the picture.

There are 4 solid choices this year (maybe 5 with the S series), that many highly reviewed plasmas in one year hasn't happened in a while. Not just a few good reviews but many for both Panasonic and Samsung. They both did a hell of a job this year.

This is a great year to buy a new display, who knows what next year will bring and how much that new tech will cost. I love reading AVS, but at times those "things" we look for can overwhelm someone looking and give them a false impression regarding quality - like me and buzzing on the 8500. I am sure that would have been a good choice too. You know it's gone too far when someone wants a picture of banding posted. Heck, if you can't see it and love how your set looks then sit back and enjoy. My VT just keeps looking better and staying quite the more hours I put on it. Add a D-Nice calibration in a month and I will be set for at least a few years - my Pioneer lasted 4.5 years.

At a minimum, buy a new one and if your not satisfied return it and hook up the old one and then maybe wait for next year - still others to try though - remember that 4. My Pioneer is wrapped carefully in the garage just in case something happens to change my mind over the next month, good to have a back up. Climbing off the soap box - sorry everyone. Back to drinking finely crafted beer-s.

I think you're making a mistake. Complaints are bound to happen, how many have complained about fan noise? 10, 20? How many have been sold? Thousands? Lets keep things in perspective. And for the record, i upgraded from a VT50 to a VT60. I've had no fan issues on either. And the complaints about fan noise aren't "new for this year", there were these same complaints last year.

I really think you're missing out if you overlook this TV. Come this time next year, there will be new complaints and you will have missed out on a year of enjoying the best blacks on the market.

Your money, your choice. Good luck.

I have a ZT with the fan noise. It's mounted on a stand 6" from the wall. It sounds like a noisy PC. What make's it really noticeable is that it throbs. You wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the fan noise if you had it and could hear it always in the background from even 12' away. It's not that I'm a hyper-sensitivity ultra neurotic user -- I predict this will turn out to be a major blunder by Panasonic. Besides no one here knows how many people are troubled by the fans and are returning sets without posting their every thought about it on AVS or other forums.

I spent at least 3 hours at 2 different Magnolia locations looking at the VT, ZT and the 8500 Samsung. I watched the Movie mode with dark room setting for the 8500, THX Cinema for the Panasonics. For fine detail the Panasonic clearly showed an advantage. It also showed an advantage in motion detail as the Samsung seemed choppy in comparison. Shadow detail is another advantage. Also colors were simply stunning on the Panasonics.

After comparing the ZT to the 8500 I went to the ZT vs. VT. I had select films playing from a Panasonic bluray player that had dual HDMI outputs. I honestly could not see a difference between the two. I realize that the ZT will hold it's blacks better in a bright room, but due to the studio master panel it also has less light output by about 5 foot lamperts and less contrast ratio as seen in review after review comparing the two from Value Electronics, Cnet, etc. Also I did quite a bit of 3-D viewing as it will be my first 3-D tv. Due to the higher light output the Panasonic holds the advantage here as well. ZT had a hard time synching to the glasses so it was more troublesome when viewing content. The VT in THX mode had a slightly more saturated picture as well, I don't know why.

I have had 2 65"VT60s both had unbearable fan noise (mounted in built in , low profile mount )

Using acoustic foam behind both fans and my custom fan filters I can still hear it though much much much better

BUT there is no way I'll ever return it for something else ... It's so amazing I'll deal with minor annoyance , I'd recommend using the fan filter idea I had because it seemed to work the best for me

Both were made in april both from amazon .. Amazing return policy they just come and take it no questions asked

Then SilverStone 120mm Fan Filter with Grill FF121 (Black)

I used a tiny bit of scotch tape to mount the 120m Fan filter onto the 140mm fan filter

The 140mm Fan Filter has tiny magnets that stick directly over the fans on the VT60 , It still allows the hot air to escape and since both of the filter were made for fan sound it blocks most of the sound ..

Oh don't sue me it it blows up your TV so use at your own risk .. but I Tested it and it really seems to work

This is what I am using ... If anyone has other ideas let me know as well : )

Going to echo the general sentiment and say: No, they will never have all the issues ironed out by next year. It just doesn't work that way. Some issues never get solved because it costs too much to solve them (for example there will always be some amount of DSE in plasma because no one is willing to manufacture at the tolerances that made Pioneer's TVs so expensive). Other issues get skipped because customers didn't seriously complain about them, or because the companies decide to develop new features instead of fixing old issues. And still other issues will be new next year, when whatever changes they make introduce new problems. This is just how consumer technology works; you never get a "perfect" device so you eventually have to make a decision on cost/benefit/risk based on the available data. I've seen both of the serious options (VT60 & F8500) and this is definitely a great year to make that decision, especially if you skipped 2012. Contrary to all the fear about Panasonic backing out of the business I believe that 2014 will also be a great year for plasma. 2015 and 16 are definitely more uncertain as we'll be getting very close to the OLED roll-out at that point (still not impressed with motion-blurry OLED, but I know many are exited).

Personally I have also decided to wait for 2014, but not because I'm expecting them to perfect the technology next year. I have a 2012 Panasonic so any upgrade I make now is probably my last TV purchase for quite a while. I believe that Samsung surprised Panasonic this year, and that (excepting an extreme business decision by Panasonic that completely cuts funding from plasma) Panasonic will return fire with something interesting next year. For example: The insider at the other forum casually mentioned that they're talking about the option of going toe to toe with Samsung on the brightness next year (same panel tech + giant power supply + ignoring energy consumption = minimal ABL, which is essentially what Samsung did this year). I'm actually also interested in what Samsung might bring next year, even though I'm still generally disappointed with certain aspects of their offering (input lag, more motion dithering compared to the Panasonics, black levels that change under various circumstances).

If you're on the fence my advice would be to watch as we get closer to the end of the year. By the time the big sales are on the horizon there will be rumors stirring about the 2014 line (at least that's how it usually works). And if you decide you don't like what you're hearing about 2014 you can still grab a 2013 at that point, probably at the best prices of the year.

Going to try and mess around with the high panel to see if I can get it any brighter during the day and if colors are out of whack as most have said.

Here is a link to high resolution pictures of the VT65 with the back off and shots of both sides of one of the fans thanks to TWD. If you enlarge the picture of the exhaust side of the fan you'll see a strip of foam rubber like stuff used to seal the joint between the fans and the case. That will force air out of the case without letting any of it circulate within the case. The original poster points out that with the case back removed there is no objectionable noise from the fans when the unit is turned on.

What I noticed is that the seal material is the same stuff that I've seen trying to seal heat registers and not doing a very good job -- especially where two strips meet. It's seems possible that the seals aren't working in some cases, which causes sound from air being forced through restricted space back into the case.

I would also like to know if the fans are variable or fixed speed. Here is a link to the pictures.

^ZT60's fans sound to be variable speed because I have heard pitch adjustments after turning on the set.
