Thanks

I bought it from the local Video Only, who gave me a hell of a deal (an offer I couldn't refuse). They did have the F8500 and, while they were not side-by-side, I was able to do a comparison. I am by no means an expert, but the image quality on the F8500 did not seem like it was worth the premium Samsung was asking for the television. I mean sure, the picture looked a little brighter, but they were both set to Vivid, something I would never do in my home. Also, from an aesthetic perspective, the VT60 is a much more "attractive" TV in my opinion. Keep in mind that I'll be wall-mounting it, so that single pane of glass look is going to look really cool and different.

I have absolutely no problem with Samsung - I was considering them for my purchase - but I didn't see a compelling reason to spend more on the F8500.

Nice pics znutz. The bottom one looks really colorful. The 65 is arriving today, a day early. So I hope it is as good as I am reading.

So what are the differences between the VT and ZT? Other then the ZT will likely have slightly better blacks. The two panels seem pretty identical in specs.

I've currently ordered a ZT60, but with no estimate time for a release or when it might come in, I may decide to save a bit of money and get a VT60. I had a faulty VT50 that I was quite happy with so I would bet the VT60 would make me happy.

Can anyone comment on how the 3d is on the VT60?

Agreed...video specs nearly identical. Very slightly better black is going to be the only difference IMO. That and $1000. smile.gif

David M. said the 3D was quite good on the VT65 (UK).

BB site shows the ZT only 500 more. I think it is mostly a status symbol. Nothing wrong with that, but can the black be that much better?

The process in which the Panels are made are different as well...On the ZT there is no air gap between the front glass and the Panel itself, the VT60 has this air gap....For now though how much better will the new process make the ZT? no one knows, sicne there has not been a Production model viewed or reviewed. the Shootout in May might be the 1st hands on with the set.......If youc an wait I would suggest waiting as the ZT is still an unknown at this point, it may be worth the wait.

Its not so much that the blacks will be "so much better", but they will be better. The image should also be a little clearer, and brighter as they have eliminated the gap between the layers. The filter is bonded right to the glass. So improved clarity and black level should be expected but to what degree isn't known yet. The VT is probably more of a complete package as the speakers are in a more optimal location than on the ZT and it also includes the camera, whereas on the ZT that is an optional add-on. The principle idea on the ZT was that it be an image first, exclusive limited edition. For some that is exactly what they are looking for, others might want a nearly as good picture but with more bells and whistles.

The street price difference at least initially will be closer to $1000 especially if you don't have to pay sales tax via online (although that may change soon). However, there will be some gradual price dropping on the VT but not on the ZT.

Yeah, no question bragging rights matter to some. wink.gif

Fortunately for me, though I can tell the difference between good PQ and bad, my eyes are not that good to see the difference between some of these models. Saves me a few bucks smile.gif

Exactly. David B measured the VT65 at .000875 MLL. How much better can the ZT really get to make it very noticeable? I don't believe the glass process is going to make a noticeable difference on the ZT.

I wouldn't place any money on it, but I don't think Panasonic would go through all the added expense of autoclaving the panels if there was not any difference in the result. It has been said that the autoclaving is what makes the ZT limited. They simply can't make more than a certain number of them even if they wanted to. So the added expense and time and limiting the numbers must have some benefit in the PQ otherwise they wasted a lot of time, money and unnecessarily cut the number of units produced for nothing. It will be interesting to see how much difference eliminating that gap actually makes once they get production units side by side. Can't wait for the shootout results.

I could be completely wrong, but the ZT is more about the "story"...limited number, premium exclusive label, engineering signature, and even the manufacturing process. The image quality is going to be very, very close to the VT60. I think in dark, low IRE scenes is where the ZT will have a very slight advantage, but grayscale, color, gamma, and detail will be identical. But, we'll find out in a couple of weeks. smile.gif

Do both panels have the new MoG or whatever it is being referred to that may help with IR?

The native youtube app works for me, I had no problems. Have you tried since your original post?
