Nothing wrong with that, many movies do.
Describing how all this happened would have taken a lot of screen time, and jacked up the budget a great deal as well. And what are you going to show? Riots and civil unrest? More money. Guys in suits around conference tables and stuff? Boring stuff.
In the hands of a better screenwriter, it wouldn't necessarily have to be.
2001 didn't show how we got to where we were supposed to be in 2001.

The stories are far apart and not really comparable.

I HOPE that was the case with this film.
After his spectacular debut with D9, the promise of great things to come in NB's 2nd was something many of us were looking forward to.
Alas, what we GOT was an ordinary, run-of-the-mill and by-the-numbers Hollywood space Shoot 'Em Up.
