She always gives me a hard time with everything I buy because she says I don't need it, but I never give up until I get my way. tongue.gif Somehow even though home audio is something I very much enjoy, she still complains because it costs so much money. biggrin.gif My latest purchase of a used SubM HP was a hard sell but I think now that she's heard it she doesn't mind. rolleyes.gif Sometimes, I wish she WOULD spend more money so then maybe she wouldn't nag me as much. LOL!

I planted a seed if my own last night. Butters, my dog, knocked over one of the bookshelf speakers...again. He's slowly learning to avoid the area around the speaker stands, as he doesn't like to be in his crate when he's been bad. She asked what we were going to do when we have kids. I told her tower speakers are much harder to knock over. She thought that made a lot of sense. wink.gif

I usually try to make sure the components look similar. I actually swapped my Sony Ruby for an Epson 6010 without discussion. Over time we have had many discussions, all after the fact. Was told to wait on 6 leather theater chairs, had em 4 weeks before she stuck her head in the room. She still mentions that one. Had a plasma mounted 8 years ago when we moved into a new house, kept thinking she would give in, literally told the guys you have to be gone by 4:30 because I'm not going to be here when she comes home. I have found its easier to ask forgiveness than permission. I am amazed at the current cost of things. I remember in 1997 going to the FED-X office to pickup one of the first DVD players, $1,000 for 480I... Had a Dwin HD700 ,$16,000 for 720P. My daughter will soon be college age and I still remember watching the first Harry Potter with her. From VHS, Super VHS, Laserdisc,DVD,HDDVD, HD and blueray and streaming I enjoyed it and continue to do so.

This thread freaking rocks, made a quick funny comment last night and we've gotten some great info, funny, but stragely very good abd helpful. It's like group therapy. It's really taking off and some great potential here. Rillas thread is about to take over epicness Friday and Saturday though.

jbrown's just listening to a sweet system, smiling, and enjoying the good things in life. Rilla teaches us the practical approach to getting our wives to agree to us taking our systems to extremely high performance levels. popalock is like the pookie, I see him talking to his saint of a wife "those 18s just keep calling me and calling me" "dual LMS's don't satisfy the itch" "They just keep calling me and calling me"

Rilla/Andrew, rooting you fellas on this weekend, sad I can't be there, but will be following along and will definitely crank the playlist here and report in smile.gif
Pop/Austin, gunna be up your way in a couple weeks. Hoping to get a demo if there's time and our schedules line up.

Are you talking about your gif? All Man I love those commercials. He's the billionaire Russian tycoon from the DirectTV commercials. They were rocking not too long ago but haven't seen one in awhile. They were good, then they broke out the miniature giraffe and just crushed it. I hate 99% of commercials but that guy just rox. There's a bunch over at youTube. I found the gif pretty quick on a google search.

EDIT: 10k on the new girls and that's the reason you have free reign to go spend more. Well done sir... no the character selections were not made at random:)

I'd say watch out. She will hit you with a bigger one, and you won't be able to say No.

Well the new kitchen I installed 2 years ago cost me a fair bit and I'm in the middle of remodeling our main bedroom including adding a balcony so I guess that's why she doesn't mind me spending on the AV gear every now and then.I think I'm just lucky. smile.gif

This is honestly a sad thread, I truly feel sorry for those of you that resort to sly tactics or have tit for tat relationships (no pun intended on boob job guy biggrin.gif).

I must be the luckiest AV enthusiast alive as my wife is usually the one encouraging our AV purchases and she actually enjoys it just about as much as I do (evident by the fact that AV gear is spread through our entire home with 8 powered subs throughout the house).

Each of us has a simple goal... to make each other happy and appreciate each and every day that we are able to share in this journey.

21 great years and counting...

Best of luck,
Jason

Jason,

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. My wife and I support each other with what we like (and also our son). We have 7 powered subs in our house - 2 in the media room and one in each of the other rooms. She enjoys it very much ad helps with the layout as far as asthetics when possible (office is not so possible - but she still does the art). The one thing she did want me to do just last year was move the gaming system (Wii) that my son uses to his room and complete his own setup - so he has a full 5.1 setup in his bedroom also. This reminds me of a funny story some years ago. I also change out the equipment in our cars (I don't like the sound of OEM equipment in cars). When she got a new car she had it for about a month and said she could live with the sound but it wasn't necessary to change the equipment. I went ahead and did the weekend after that. The day after is was done I was out in the yard and 'heard' her just around the corner coming back home (stereo was cranking a bit loud). When she she got out I commented "so, you didn't really want me to install a system...". She just smiled and said Thank You.

Yes, we are on this journey together (along with our 6yo son, other family members and friends). It's good to make each other happy as much as possible as it can be taken away at any time. I've had close calls already and so has my son, every day is precious!

I'm boob job guy!....lol

I honestly can't really complain, my wife is pretty good about the money I've spent on the theater. Last year I did a total reno on our theater room, last December all we had was a 5.1 JBL Northridge speaker system with a Denon AVR-1906, Optoma HD70 projector and a 92" pull down screen along with one row of three powered seats. In just over a year the room has completely transformed into a really nice system. We have a JVC RS45 with a nice 112" fixed frame screen, dual PSA XS30's, two sets of Axiom QS8's for surrounds, a decent Pioneer receiver, two rows of powered seats and my new incoming Noesis 228HT's for mains. That's about 15grand worth of upgrades in a year all while having a rather expensive taste in watches that I can't seem to stop buying and blowing a lot of cash on my other hobby of riding and racing dirt bikes.

At the end of the day my wife and kids love having the theater so I can't really complain, of course having a nice rack on my wife too look at isn't all that bad either!...LOL wink.gif

Jason, thank thee lord that you have the pleasure to partner with such a wonderful person in this journey of your life.
I wish and pray that there are not ghosts lurking nor show up underneath this beautiful life.
