Need Help: Advanced Random Playlist for Videos?

Hello media gurus!

I've recently joined the man cave craze and have a cozy little games'n'movie'n'80s-toys room that I'm really enjoying. I've even installed some blacklights, disco balls, and other accoutrements such that with the flip of a few switches, it's like my own personal geek-themed junior prom whenever I want. smile.gif

For ambient sound, I've so far just been piping music from an 80s playlist running on my desktop computer. However, I'm wanting to take it a step further by installing some cheap 4:3 LCDs in each corner and streaming various 80s music videos, and the occasional bit of other nostalgic content. (vintage commercials, public service announcements, Schoolhouse Rock, etc.). Now while I could just dump all the videos I want to play into a single standard playlist and set it to random, I want to have a bit more control than that. I'd like to play the music videos randomly in sets of, say, three songs, followed by a couple random commercials, and maybe once every half hour have a PSA or Schoolhouse Rock come up.

After doing some searching, I've yet to find a media player that supports this level of playlist customization. Is anyone aware of a way that you can have a master playlist schedule that then makes calls to a series of sub-playlists which point to the actual media content? I'm thinking something like this:

MASTER_PLAYLIST
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Commercial_Playlist: Random
- Commercial_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Commercial_Playlist: Random
- Commercial_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- PSA_Playlist: Random
- Commercial_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Commercial_Playlist: Random
- Commercial_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- SchoolhouseRock_Playlist: Random
- Commercial_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random
- Music_Video_Playlist: Random

...and you get the idea.

So is anyone aware of a media player that would support that level of playlist control? Or maybe there's an alternate way to do what I'm wanting to do. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any tips or help!

VLC allows you to script playlists, I would think it is possible but you'd have to write the script yourself. More info here

Thanks much! I'll check it out and see if I can get it working, then report back here with the results.
