Panasonic ST60 Deals - Page 14

It sure is. Christmas comes early for those who got this deal!
I'm in MN and was able to get the $997 price match to Fry's. I have never even seen a Fry's, mind you.

FWIW, I did online chat very early this morning. The first rep said that they could not price match, but did not offer a reason and overall seemed a bit uninformed as to the price matching policies. I asked to be transferred to his manager. That guy said he would have to transfer my issue to another team that was not available at that hour of the day. Actually, he said I could call them later in the day or else have him forward my info to them and that, in the latter case, they would get back to me in 1-2 business days. I chose the latter and said I would call if motivated. Well, they sent me an email later this morning and offered the price match if I order within 48 hours. It seems that they ignored my proximity to a Fry's.

Hopefully, this info will help somebody recreate this deal.

BTW, I'm a little wary of the ST60 due to the significant input lag. I did place an order, but I may take the rest of the weekend to think about canceling. I feel like I would be insane to do so at this price, but this is something I'd want to be happy with for several years. That said, there's no way I'd jump up to the VT60 to avoid the lag issue. I actually have an option to buy a P55ST50 for around $650, that I'm also considering.

If any of you care to weigh in on the lag issue, you can respond in the thread I created here.

I am wondering if there is going to be black Friday deals for the st60's and if there will even be any left.  I was thinking about getting the 50st50 for997$ on amazon, but i kinda want a 55 or 60 inch.  I am also trying to decide whether or not to buy the 50st50

or look for a larger one from a different brand.

Yes, thanks for posting that price and deal!!!

Black Friday deals are usually on lower-end models that can be had in reasonable volume. There probably aren't enough ST60s around to allocate a reasonable quantity per Best Buy store, for example. Sometimes, there are even store-specific models sold for Black Friday to prevent price matching.

I expect the remaining Panasonics to be closed out through the usual channels. Supply/demand will dictate pricing, but I hear that the large panels are getting scarce.

thanks noah,  I might try to find another tv around 1,000$ that is a 3d 55/60 inch.  This probly isnt the best place to ask but does anyone know of posts comparing st60 to anything else that might be a little cheaper?

I ran into the same thing this morning...the chat CSR tried to have the 'large items department' call me, but I was always instantly transferred to a different department. I told them what I was wanting done and they kept trying to transfer me. I finally found out that the large item department doesn't open until 8am PST. In the end, one of the chat CSR's had me make the purchase and she went in and changed the price after the order was completed. I was worried throughout the entire process I'd be shot down smile.gif

BTW, I'm upgrading from a Pio 5080HD Kuro that's been delivering a great picture for nearly 6 years now. Hopefully it's a worthwhile upgrade in picture quality (obviously the jump in size will be welcome). Now to decide whether to move the Pio to the bedroom or try to sell it on Craigslist...anyone interested? smile.gif

Glad you got it to work. Are you near a Fry's at all?

I hate to break it to you, but I wouldn't expect a significant improvement over the 5080, if any. I have a 500M and I still expect it to be superior to the ST60. I think phosphor lag is better in the Panasonics, but the Pioneers win in many other categories. I'm interested to see if modified-ANSI type contrast is improved. That is probably my one complaint with the 500M. Low APL scenes don't retain good black level, in my experience.

I just sold my P50GT25 in anticipation of upgrading given the news from Panasonic. This deal came at exactly the right time for me. I'm really hoping the high input lag doesn't bother me.

I too live in Minnesota and purchased this TV from Amazon last Wednesday, although it wont be delivered till Monday. After seeing this post, I asked for a Low Price Guarantee via live chat and what do you know a refund of the difference will be put back on my card. Thought it was worth a try!! Thanks All!!

Is the 60" ST "worth" (I know, it's subjective) $300 more than the S60?

If you want 3D or will be using it in a non-batcave type room, I say yes.

Otherwise, perhaps not.

LOL, well, it's not quite a "batcave", but I usually only have time to watch movies, etc. at night when it is dark...

And, I have seen 3D movies on the VT60 - and really don't care for them - they look more like "layered" 2D to me than actual 3D - if that makes sense...

Are the other pluses worth it?

The brighter screen, deeper blacks?

Oh, and I don't game either...:)

I think the glare reduction is the biggest difference, then.

Are you going to try to have Amazon price match on the S60?
Sweet! Just got off the phone with Amazon and got the FRY'S price. I live on the east coast and not near a FRY'S No questions asked. Worth trying...
I just tried the Amazon price match via chat for the 60ST60 but they couldn't get an answer tonight and asked me to check back in the morning. I'll try again tomorrow and see what the verdict is. I'm on the east cost but the nearest FRYS to me is a 2 hour drive.
Just put in a request via live chat. She put in a ticket and said I'd get an email in 24-48 hours with whether the request would be approved or denied. Hoping it's approved!

I'm on the east coast in Virginia so not any Fry's nearby. Hopeful though it'll work.

I've tried 3 times and keep getting shot down. frown.gif I'm in Ohio. What are the exact steps you guys are doing to get them to match?

You have to login, choose other along the top so it's not on previous orders, but that'll get you there.

Are you calling or are you live chatting? I'm not sure if there is a difference as I'm still waiting to hear what they say for me, but I'm curious if that makes a difference.

I'm live chatting.

I was just told by the live chat rep at Amazon that they had to send an email to their large items department...

And I would receive a response in 1-2 business days...

I'm a little over an hour away from the closest Fry's.

Thanks for the comments. Honestly I'd be happy if the picture quality was as good as the 720P 5080HD. The jump in resolution should be nice and the jump in size will be great.
Well just got done live chatting for the frys price match and the large items dept will let me know via email in 1-2 days if they agree. Fingers crossed!
I think those that have gotten this to work have dodged the large items dept. Will be interesting to see if any of these get through. I was denied a PM via phone for a prior purchase. I'm also wondering if they're more lenient if you haven't purchased yet?!

Anyone foresee any super-hot deals (like the one on the 60") coming on the 65"?

It's difficult to know, but I wouldn't expect others just because of this one. I think the most likely scenario for markdowns is after the new year. However, that will also depend on inventory levels, which remain to be seen.

Just asked Amazon to price match Fry's. They said they need to present this to their technical team and would let me know within 4 hours if they will price match. If they agree to price match $997 for the 60ST60, then I have a real decision to make. I have the 65" on order scheduled for delivery Friday, but now $1900 compared to $1k might make me think about settling for the 60". Tough call.

I went through this process a couple of hours ago. Result: no go. Reason: TV is out of stock, not orderable, so no price match. Maybe you will have better luck.
