The remote is RF only. It has no known IR capabilities. You will need to run the included IR emitter cable from the hub to your TV. I've included a pic below of mine. My media closet is in the room behind the wall that the TV is hung on. For that reason, I had to run cable through the walls. Since I already had cable there for the TV connections, I just fished the cable through that.

As you can see from the pic, the emitter does not have to be attached to the TV. Just make sure it has line of sight to the IR receiver on the TV.
It even doesn't have to be in direct line of site to the TV, I have mine affixed behind the TV at the bottom edge of the TV which is hanging on the Wall

Perhaps so, in my experience, the hub itself is seemingly able to blast its IR all over the room.

However, both the hub and the emitter are not exactly free from the basic principles of IR communication, but its possible that its bouncing its signal off another object and somehow reaching your TV's IR receiver area.

In my case, the Vizio TVs IR window is actually located on the bottom (mostly) with a tiny portion visible on the front of the set (inside the power indicator).

So, I'm able to work it by simply placing the IR emitter on the mantle below the bottom left side of the set where the power indicator light is located.

From the looks of that new remote it looks like it only has 3 activities? How many devices does it support? Thanks

Modify the Off instruction for the activity and add in power off twice. Sometimes the MyHarmony software examines the button names and may not allow them in certain places (I've run into this with buttons that "belong" on the keypad) so you might have to learn power off as a new button, maybe call it P_Off, then you'll have access to it.

The activities buttons each support short and long press, giving you a total of 6 activities. Although, it would have been nicer to have an extra hard button, as you may forget what the long presses do until you get used to them. Once you overcome that obstacle, the short/long press becomes very workable as is IMO.

The remote supports up to 8 devices.

How do I modify those instructions, couldn't seem to find a spot to do that at myharmony.com

Go to Activities, select the Activity you want to modify, select Customize this Activity. Click on Activity shutdown commands and then tweak all you want.

So the simple smart remote is completely RF only and IR capable via the hub only.....does the ultimate LCD screen remote have IR capability directly from the remote??

Yes the Ultimate has IR, and it can learn IR also.

Thanks. Doesn't seem to let me add a duplicate command, PowerOff is not in the list. Hmmmm

Typically if you contact support they'll fix those tricky projector power off sequences for you. Learning is not the correct approach IMO. If you still want to fix it yourself in the additional commands at the start of your activity, you may want to try a different profile like the VPL-AW15. It has a full set of commands, including PowerOff. All recent Sony projectors I know of use the same codes.

mdavej's suggestion is a good one. I've never dealt with this issue myself, but as I said above there are ways to work around it if they can't help.

I just got this working on my Sony VW1000ES after a few days of trial and error. Most recent Sony projectors should work in a similar fashion. Here's what I did:

From MyHarmony, go to Devices-- your projector-- Change Device Settings-- Power Settings-- select "I press two different buttons for on and for off"

For power on and off settings, follow these screenshots. Basically, because the projectors use the same button (press once for on, twice to turn off), you've got to set up custom commands for the power options.

I fixed it by:

1. teaching it a "new" command, labeling it "power 2" and teaching it the power button
2. then added that to the command settings as a new step for Power 2 on top of PowerOff

Works so far. Thanks all!

Today I started a FAQ. I've been typing away on it for the past couple of hours and have put it in the first post of the thread. I'm taking a break now, I'll get back to it to address the Smart control and software soon. I haven't proofread it yet and I'm sure it's missing a lot. If you see any factual errors please PM me and I'll update it ASAP.

This is for the harmony guys, if they are still following this thread.

I have the Ultimate setup and it is working great but we need more IP control support.

Specifically for me, Sonos and Tivo control/feedback would be amazing.

The Ultimate remote does both RF (through the hub) and IR directly from the remote, or the 2 blasters. I setup the ultimate remote to control my tv on/off while the 2 blasters control my dvr and receiver. And the rf from the hub goes to my ps3. I love it!

I said earlier in this thread I was getting mine (Smart Control) tomorrow, but actually, I just got it today.......

I have kept up with most of this thread but lost track the past couple of weeks. I did search this thread for my questions below, but couldn't find the answers.

So, I hooked up my SC and set it up through my phone (Android). Everything went smooth and seemed to work fine when I was done.

I have an xbox 360, Denon 1913, Benq w1070 and a BD-5600 BR player... and a media sever(pc) hooked up to the Denon.. Everything worked but I did not try to control the PC with the remote yet as I don't know where my PC dongle is.

But, after I set all that up, I wanted to fiddle with icons from iconharmony and after some tweaking I figured I had to hook the thing up to my computer... so I did.. and logged on to myharmony or tried to. It would not let me sign on with the exact same information I put on my phone yet it let me re-register(with the same information) and of course go through the same setup on the website.

Also, I did not see where the app would let me assign icons to activities. And I can't really tell if the icons are sent from the hub to my phone. What is the best way to do this? What is the best way to update the icons for favorite channels and activities on the smart control? Is this a known issue too, of me having to re-register on myharmony.com and re-enter my information or did I do something wrong?

Thanks,
BD

Well BD, I know you can upload new icons for an Activity through the software, however they don't show up on my Android phone. Instead I see the default icon that MyHarmony originally chose. Maybe that option to upload isn't shown in the software if you don't have an Ultimate. Oh, and I looked into it once before and confirmed with the guys at Logitech that you could not choose a different icon from their library. It was either use their default, or upload your own. Hopefully that will be fixed at some point.

With the app, you cannot assign Icons to the Activities.

I currently have all of my whole house DVR boxes in my media closet all controlled separately via DTV RF remotes, will the hub have any effect on the other RF controlled boxes if I have it in the media closet and just want to control the family room Box and associated components for that room via the hub IR ? I would imagine so long as non of the other boxes are changed from RF control and put in any on the activity's on the remote it should be fine and the other 3 RF controlled boxes should operate independently as they do now ? Figured I would ask.....

In all likelihood there will be no problems with the Harmony stuff and your other RF devices. So long as those DVRs aren't controlled by the same IR signal also then it seems like everything should be ok. Also, I don't recall anyone mentioning any problems with a setup like that.

I agree. Historically, DirecTV RF and Harmony RF have never interfered. I haven't seen any reports of the Ultimate hub being any different. Just be aware that Harmony can only control DirecTV boxes in IR mode. IIRC, only the HR44 can do RF and IR simultaneously, so any other boxes you want to control with Harmony will have to be switched to IR and won't work with RF at all anymore. If I understand your question though, your other boxes will never be controlled by Harmony, so those will be fine on RF.

If you ever decide to use your Harmony with your other boxes, realize you can assign each a unique IR address, so those can remain independent of each other, even in IR mode.

There is one other model of Directv receiver that accepts both IR & RF at the same time, its the THR22 Directv Tivo dvr, in addition to the hr44 genie.

Thanks for your feedback Mike. While we're unable to provide details, we are aware of the high demand for additional IP control and this is definitely a path we're exploring.

Hi Bdunn,

The behavior you describe - where you were able to create a second account on MyHarmony using the same credentials as when going through setup on a mobile - is not normal. Please PM me your account details (password is NOT needed) and we'll take a look to see what is going on.

The app currently does not allow the upload of custom Activity icons, nor does it pull them from a MyHarmony account. We've added this to our list of user requests.

Thanks for the feedback!

Can you add additional hubs and control them with one Harmony ultimate remote?

I need to control gear at 2 different locations and out of line of sight.
