Harmony Ultimate, Smart Control and Hub - Page 23

I'm loving the new firmware. I had to reconfigure my blaster assignments after the update, after that everything is working well. Had to configure the single tap 'Pause' gesture too. It was just doing 'slow-mo' after the update, but that was simple enough to change.

Additionally,, I wanted to change one of the gesture assignments for my DirecTV DVR. I wanted to use the 'double tap' for bring up the 'List' (now playing list). That single button exists on the original remote, but that command is missing under the available ones when editing the gestures. Any idea why or how I can add it?

I love too the new firmware and best of all the ability to lock the touch of the remote. Is anyway to lock the remote with just one button instead to go throught the menu? Just like to unlock that you use the exit button

New owner of a Smart Control, here. I've had Harmony remotes for 10 years, now, and I've never had more difficulty than tonight, getting this thing to work the way I want.

The iOS app works okay, but I'm looking to make use of the Simple Remote for most of my functionality. Unfortunately, when I log into myharmony.com, I only see "Ultimate Hub". I choose that, and I see this:

Where do I go to customize the activity buttons?

I want to like this thing, but so far it's a nightmare!
I'm trying to make a decision between buying the Touch now then the Ultimate Hub later and buying the Harmony Ultimate that comes with the hub. Are the remotes the same in both packages? and would I be missing any features add the hub to the Touch later as opposed to just buying the Harmony Ultimate.

I may be over thinking. Push me in a direction.

I think the Touch is missing the accelorometer (to turn the screen and button lights on when you pick it up), haptic feedback (vibration when you touch a button on the screen), and has a different mold on the bottom of the remote (I think it was changed to be more ergonomic with the Ultimate). I actually bought the Touch and the smart control combo because they were slightly cheaper from Amazon, but at the time they didn't have the firmware update for the Touch to interface with the ultimate hub. And there was no way to be able to sync both the smart control remote and the Touch with the same hub. I thought it would be really neat to use the smart control remote as a dedicated zone 2 remote with my system. However, in the end I returned the smart control and Touch and bought the Ultimate. I'm still happy with that decision a few months later.

I'm not sure the software is recognizing your hub correctly. When you log into myharmony.com, try setting up the hub as a new device at the myharmony.com main screen. Then do a firmware update and it should recognize it as a smart control instead of just an Ultimate Hub. I think that is your issue. In the screenshot you posted, there should be a tab on the left that says "Buttons" below "Activities" for the smart control remote. That is where you would customize activity buttons.

Same thing happened to me. According to support, your only remedy is to create a new account (with a new email address) and repeat the setup all over again.

Or try removing the remote from the list of remotes on MyHarmony app and then re-add it back and the app should see it as a new device.

Thank you for this response, Its pushing me toward the Ultimate. I didn't realize that there was a difference in the 2 remotes.

We're aware of this issue and have been correcting affected accounts.

savagexp - yours should likely have been corrected by now. Please do try logging back in more more time to check before you try creating a new one from scratch.

Thanks

I think the biggest mistake of the smart remote was not putting ir on the remote.

This gives you a disadvantage if you want all you devices put away in another room.

Thanks so much, Sylvain. I'm all set.

I recently upgraded from Harmony one to the ultimate.

Every time I edit an activity on my PC, it seems to move back to the last activity, even though I move it on the remote to be the second activity.

Every time I edit that activity on my PD, the default startup screen changes back to Numbers, rather than Gestures, which I have it set on the remote.

Is there a way to stop this from happening. Seems like a waste of time.

Also, is there a way to un-associate a hard button on the remote from a command (and not associate it with any command?
To answer your last question, the answer is no.

I agree the lock function should be only one button without having to go thorough the menu.

Good function bad carry through

Every time I go to edit button or screen function, I get this instructional page that pops up to teach me how to do it. That was ok the first time, but it is getting old really fast.

Is there any way to turn that off?

Also, what is the meaning of the color of the light on the front of the Hub. It often is solid green. At other times, solid red. I think it blinks green at times and blinks red at other times.

I also vote for a way to reorder the Devices, if anyone has any pull. I assume there is no way to do that.
With all Harmony remotes, there has never been a way to reorder Devices

Is there a way to copy an existing activity as a starting point for a new activity?

HarmonySylvain I'm having the same issue as savagexp , what was the fix for this?
For those with a Touch, you might want to read my post here regarding it and the Smart Control:

I will be moving into my new house in December. Should I wait to see if anything new comes out, or go ahead and purchase it now? It would be nice to have it in my hands to play with before I deal with the hassel of moving.

Thanks guys. This has been added to the list of improvements we're tracking.

Just to better help me understand the need around this feature - is this request because the lock is something you need to do quickly, and don't have time to fumble through the menus? How would you feel if this feature was in the root settings menu (below the sleep timer, for example) rather than in Settings --> Remote?

What are everyone else's thoughts on this?

Thanks

Sylvain

Hi Tachy,

If settings are changed both on myharmony and on the remote without being synced, a conflict is detected, and the settings from MyHarmony will 'win' and be applied to the remote.

I would suggest using MyHarmony to reorder your Activities and sync without making any changes on-remote. Hopefully that will do the trick!

I've passed the issue where the startup screen reverts back to defaults to our QA team - thank you for that.

Regarding the unassignment of a command from a hard button, there is unfortunately currently no way do to this.

Regards

Sylvain

Hi MikeClough24,

Please add your PC to your MyHarmony account as the following:

Manufacturer: Microsoft
Model: Windows Media Center SE

This device contains a multitude of keyboard combinations such as Alt+x, Ctrl key shortcuts, mouse events and just under 30 different Win key combinations.

Enjoy!

I would say the best way to lock the remote by one button like when you want to unlock it. How many times the remote is between your legs on the bed or on the sofa and accidentally push one acrivity. It's much better to lock it with just one button instead to go throught the menu.

Vagos, if I understand correctly, you would like to be able to quickly lock the remote even while it's in use to avoid accidental taps or button presses. Is this something you would consistently do before putting the remote back down on the table/your lap/ the couch, etc?
