How to turn off the Viewsonic Pro8200

I just got my 8200 today. It's my first projector. to turn it off the manual says to press the off button, wait for prompt and press again. It is supposed to go into cooling mode and when that is finished it is supposed to enter standby mode. However, when I press off the 2 times the blue ring is solid and stays solid. It's been almost a half hour and it is still solid. no fans. I'm afraid to turn it off. Is this normal?

Not sure what you are saying, exactly. If you push the button 2 times, does it turn off, yes or no.

You get a solid blue light if it is off.

Now in menu, you have to find quick turn off, and turn that feature off. You want the PJ to cool down, usually the fan kicks in and for 30 seconds or more the fan runs, then turns off. If you don't turn the feature off, when you push the button 2 times it will just turn off, without fan going for 30 seconds or more. Hope that makes sense. Relax and read the calibration thread on the pro8200 too. There are lots of helpful pointers in the pro8200 threads, read them and give it a few days to understand the PJ if you are new to this. It took me a couple of days.

Do not turn the pj off and on again. Wait. Only turn on the PJ when you intend to use it, every on and off puts about 4 hours of bulb wear on bulb. So if on leave it on, use it and when done turn it off, it's not like a hdtv.

Have fun with your PJ. Don't worry if you hear sounds the first day, it's normal, and goes away, we are thinking it's packing gel. Read the pro8200 thread maybe the last 20 or so pages, it will help you understand the pj and the kinds of things NEW users want to know. Also, post their if you have pro8200 problems.

Yes, I got a solid blue light. It never went into standby. After I posted I went through the menus and found the 'quick off' that you mentioned. I would think that would be the default setting. It is a refurb so maybe I don't have all of the default settings. Thanks for the advice. I will definitely be reading more in these forums. I have to say that this unit has exceeded my expectations so far. Projecting directly on to my light brown/beige walls already looks great. I will be ordering a screen as soon as I work out exactly where it will be mounted.
