Large room I estimate it to be about 35X25 (living room, dining room, and kitchen all open and one big room) Mostly music but also some HT. Upgrading up from A5+ paired with BIC F12. Any thoughts?
Are you looking at getting a pair of towers? Towers tend to be a little bit power hungry, and seeing that your Denon is rated at 75/watts per channel with no preouts, as long as you don't listen to near reference levels you should be okay. Given that you are willing to go up to $800/pair on the speakers there are a lot of choices out there. Fry's has a sale going on their Polk Audio RTi speakers, the RTi 8's are $159 each and the RTi 12's are $299 each, accessories4less.com has a pair of Boston Acoustics A360's for $199 each(a 3-way with a pair of 6.5' woofers), there is the Arx A5 B-Stock at $649, the HTD Level 2 at $399/pair(with a 1' Silk Dome tweeter a pair of 5.25" mids and a front port), the Level 3 at $799/pair(a 3-way with a horn loaded Kapton ribbon tweeter, a 2' mid, and a pair of 7' woofers), and the Ascend 340 SE mains at $568/pair, they are bookshelf speaker but you can get pedastal stands that will turn them into mini towers, also a pair of B-Stock at $499.84/pair. These are just a few suggestions in your price range, your best bet is to visit any local shops you have and audition them in person, to see what sounds best to you. One advantage of going with an ID company is that you have a 30 day in home trial, but some will charge shipping both ways if you don't like them or offer free shipping and you pay for return shipping. Good luck.
