Sony HDR-CX430v Camcorder

The Sony HDR-CX430v has a serious design flaw. The attachment points for using a tripod or a grip handle are backward to the normal configuration. The camcorder has a place to screw the camcorder to a quick mount shoe and an alignment pin to keep it square with the tripod. On the CX430 the position of these two items has been reversed.

The result is that the Camcorder cannot be attached properly to any standard tripod or grip handle. You must order a Sony's tripod specifically designed for the CX430. This is a ripoff designed to force you to buy a Sony tripod which you can only use for one specific camera.

Even the Sony GP-ATV1 grip will not fit properly. The grip must be put on backward and the controls are in a very awkward position.

I think that "any standard tripod" is a bit of a stretch, although I feel your pain and recognize importance of standards.
