Hi -

I've been lurking on these forums for months. The more I lurk the more money I want to spend smile.gif

I am looking to setup a 2 channel system and attach it to my tv.

I think I've settled on the Onkyo 414 receiver, it seems to be the best bang for the buck. (I am willing to look at other options in the same price range.)

I am now looking for 2 speakers, I've considered lots of different ideas, Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 or 10.2, however I would have to come up with a set of stands. I've also considered many different tower speakers in the $500 to $800 range. The EMP E55Ti, I decided against those because I need something 40 inches tall or less. I've looked at klipsch and lots of others.

I just can't make up my mind as to what I want to do, I am hoping you fine folks can help. Also of note I don't have anywhere nearby that I can preview the speakers in the store, I live in a very small town and the nearest electronics store we have is a best buy.

Total budget around $1,000 (2 speakers and a receiver)

Listening breakdown: 50% TV/Movies 40% music 10% video games.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

I will recommend Bowers & Wilkins 685 speakers. As for a receiver I am also in the market for one and was thinking about getting the Harman Kardon HK 3490. The price is a bit high now but a couple of days ago it went down to $355 or so but shot back up. You can keep an eye out for it by adding it to your cart to see if the price drops:

I might recommend that you choose an AVR within your budget rather than a 2 channel receiver. You aren't losing anything, but gaining many more options that will allow you to grow the system with ease. Just a thought.

If you are going to watch movies, buying bookshelves instead of towers and putting money towards a sub would be a good choice. Tower speakers won't be able to reproduce some of the very low bass content in blurays and dvds.
