Thats interesting. They must figure some returned items (but box never opened) will happen. I think they can still sell those as new. Not 100% sure on that, though.

Problem with that is its possible to open, and then reseal the box, without it looking like it was opened, as the (4) plastic plugs are all that hold the top section to the bottom.

The thin foam used to wrap the display and the stand is nearly impossible to separate without tearing it. Same thing with the various bags taped shut. Sure, someone deliberately trying to do it could probably avoid leaving the tell-tale signs. But not the typical clerks at a box store...

Now, the NSA, looking to load up malware for the camera and wifi? Sure, they could intercept it and you'd never know...

Ugh...You'd think so, but I have been surprised a number of times. rolleyes.gif

I've been following this thread for a few weeks. Just missed out on the $1999 deals at Amazon and Best Buy. I really wasn't looking a for a new TV, but after reading all the reviews for the ZT60, I really wanted one. I convinced myself that I really didn't need the ZT, so I began searching for the 65VT60. I even visited the local BB Magnolia store, and they couldn't help me with the 65VT60, but offered my a great deal on the 65ZT60 - $2800. I thought about it, but walked out.

Every day I would pull up the link for this thread, see what people were saying, and then check the Best Buy and Amazon sites for returns. Thought I had it made this afternoon. "Used, but in perfect shape" $2200, free shipping. Threw that baby in my cart, went through checkout, clicked the complete button... and... NO LONGER AVAILABLE. Somebody here bought it right out from under me! Luckily, they had another one purported to have bad packaging and scratches on the base (which will end up in the closet), but otherwise complete. No mention of bad pixels or scratches on the screen - $2134. I decided to take my chances. It should be here next week. Hope the weather warms up so I can talk the delivery guys into helping me hang it on the wall. smile.gif

I'll be checking carefully for any cracks in the glass, bad pixels, and fingerprints where they don't belong, but I am excited to see how this baby looks. biggrin.gif

The delivery guys will want more than sweet talk to help you put it on the wall. wink.gif

Well my 1999 deal from Amazon just went bye bye. I just refused shipment of a P65VT60 from Amazon. The first thing I noticed was the power cord sticking out the bottom of the box. I was like oh my this cannot be good. We opened the box to find the Styrofoam that protects the top of the TV broken into several pieces. I knew that was not a good sign. There were three deep gashes cut into the silver metal at the top left of TV. In that area the screen was cracked in several places. So there goes my chance of owning this great TV. What is up with all these cracked screens coming from Amazon? So disappointed that I will not be an owner of this great plasma. I guess it's time to see what the new 4K TVs bring to the table.

That sucks to hear. I feel like I'm going to be in the same situation and have to return mine. I'm not a positive thinker. I'm surprised there aren't more reports of damaged TVs from the shipping method. I also have to think there is a possibility that each TV shipped multiple times may have less maximum hours that it will achieve in its lifetime.

Tell me about it. On top of that I now have $1300 in amazon gift cards tied up. I had used $1300 worth of Best Buy gift cards to purchase $1300 worth of amazon gift cards. Well I hope that your delivery goes better. Only one guy delivered the big and heavy TV. I think Pilot should at least use two guys as I had to help him get it inside.

Man, all of this delivery damage has made me rethink shipping anymore of my "personal" private seller inventory I've accumulated over the last two months. I've started turning away sales because I'm concerned if I take PayPal for payment and ship a brand new in the box VT or whatever to someone in (wherever) what happens if they destroy it in route? How do I prove it was in perfect shape before they picked it up? PayPal will likely refund the Buyer's payment (as they should if it arrives damaged) and then I'm left trying to collect on the shipping insurance which could take weeks or months even if I can prove they are the ones that damaged it. I could be left holding the entire bag where I'm SOL and end up with no TV and no insurance money to replace it even if I could.

Has anybody checked with Cleveland Plasma for a VT60?  They might have them in stock.

This happened to me as well. I've yet to contact Amazon but I'm a little upset. I was planning on watching the Superbowl with it and even moved my work schedule around to be available for the delivery. Not to mention shelling out the cash to amazon for a soundbar and blu-ray player that is doing nothing...

So I found a 60"VT display model for $1599 at a bestbuy about 4 hours away with 3000 hours on it. They were guna ship it but I found out it doesn't include the box, and i'd feel better just going an getting it. I got them to knock it down to $1499

The reason I wanted a 55" is I heard the smaller TV's were brighter, like the larger you got the less bright they were allowed to get is that true? I'm afraid it will be a lot dimmer than my 50ST50

Should I buy it and go get it?

I sure wouldn't buy it without seeing it first and I wouldn't even think about driving 4 hrs away to see a BB display without knowing a lot more about the TV, especially the screen condition. And don't just take their word for it being in great shape, make sure they have actually seen the TV in person and make sure they have looked very closely at it in screen wipe mode.

I have both a 60VT60 and a 65VT60 and the screen brightness is a non issue.

Sell it local via Craigslist.

I had a 55VT60 for several weeks during Christmas holidays before returning it and buying a 60VT60 and the 60" is noticeably brighter than the 55". Not sure why...?

If it's on the wall first thing you need to ask is if they have the stand, there's a good chance they don't from what I've run across and it wouldn't surprise me if most if not all of the rest of the stuff is missing to.

If they don't know how to do it, which is likely, tell them to go to "menu", then "picture" then scroll down to "screen settings" then "screen wipe" and tell them to look very closely at all of the white areas of the screen.

"Well its on the wall so they can see it but how would I see it? Tell them I want them to skype me?"

Hey, that's a good idea! lol, hadn't thought of that one, or they could video it on the ph and send it to you....kinda kidding but that would be great because they don't always tell you the truth and then you get down there after driving 4 hrs and it's got a big ol' fat burn in all over the screen.

I simply meant to have them check all of this stuff before you drive all the way down there and waist a day for nothing. I'm speaking from experience here. And make sure you get the full name of the employee you have check it before getting off the ph with them. If you end up going down to look at it in person take along USB stick with a white slide on it which will enable you to see the whole screen in a static form.

I'd sit tight and wait for the price of the 8500 to drop. Or wait for the new P series from Vizio this spring/summer. I know, I know, its LED/LCD. But FALD with 60+ zones, it may be a pretty good tv. And the prices look crazy good.

I have them listed here in VA on Craigs List but most folks don't have a big enough vehicle to safely transport an open box 60 or 65", much less one new in the box. Plus many people from outside of VA are inquiring about them too. Have had people from all over the US contacting me but very few from my home town. I would offer to deliver it for them in that case for a reasonable charge. It's not really a big deal because I only have a few left, I'm keeping 3 personally, and selling the others to help me be able to afford to keep the ones I want. I started with a 50" S60 and caught the bug big time and went to a open box 60ST then a 65PS64 from Costco, another open box 65ST and now have a 60VT60 and a floor model 65VT60 with some burn in I got screwed on (looooong story) so I'm hoping to get the last NIB 65VT60 left in the country from this retailer right now to replace that, then I'll be done....I hope lol. Just praying the new 65VT doesn't get broken in transport if I can come to terms with this retailer!

That is what I was thinking about doing. I have my eye on the 70 inch model from the P series line. The waiting is the hard part.

Add me to that list of bad luck. Received my 60VT last Friday and right away thought everything was fine (screen no dead pixel, no crack, no line, dirt just beautiful). Well what do I know, once pealing all the plastic protection from the bottom part of the tv, I've notice the clear plastic on lower bottom right is loose. Upon Thoroughly inspecting it with the left corner, the right bottom corner is damage. I am so frustrated as these set are no longer available. Brandsmart saying they will not ship out a new tv or anything. Right now I'm waiting for the claim process to fall through with the freight company (SAIA), terrible company btw. According to Brandsmart I should hear back from them in 2-3 days for appointment to look at the tv. Here's some pic I took.

Bottom left corner undamaged

Yeah I've already asked them about the stand, 2 remotes and 3D glasses and am awaiting a call back, I don't understand how they expect people to pay full price if that stuff is missing, can you even buy just a stand?

Yeah I don't know what it is with bestbuy, its like as soon as your employed you lost all common sense or something. The first guy I talked to I asked if it was packed up and waiting or still on the wall and he is like "Umm idk I think it might be on the wall" and I just wanted to scream, "GO LOOK! IT EITHER IS OR ISN'T, LOOK ON THE DAMN WALL" lol.

Yeah I'm trying to score this VT60 for cheap but if not I may have to talk to you more about your TV's. The main thing I'm wondering about is just getting a new 8500 or waiting and seeing what Samsung comes out with next year. The extra money must just be better for a new 8500 then a VT missing crap with 3000 hours on it. The blacks aren't as good on the 8500 but it gets way brighter but idk if they get dimmer faster then?

The 8500 is a good TV.

Yes, you can buy just the stand. ~$150-$200. Part numbers below.

I think you need to buy both of these, though I'm not 100% sure.

TXFBL5Z0135 - Bracket and screws
TBL5ZX07141 - Actual pedestal

Given the scarcity of these things at this point, I'd have to say that does not look good, but it doesn't look terrible if the panel hasn't been damaged in any way. If you can work out a way to get them to give you money back in the deal, keeping it may work out for you in the long run.

I just now bought a brand new 60VT60 on (shipped and sold by) Amazon for $1999. Tried to price match to the $1799 Best Buy price, but they don't match clearance.

Now, I have to decide by the end of the day whether to take this 60VT60, or wait for the 65VT60 that they(Amazon) keep telling me will ship in March.
Bought two 65vt60s directly from Amazon. Both delivered by Pilot with two guys who did a great job. Both are October 2013 builds and seem to be in perfect condition. So far so good.

Man you just made me get up and cause my daughter to get killed in her video game (snowed out in VA today) to check that same corner under the sticker and tape I haven't removed on my 60VT yet lol

Sorry for your luck but at least it's not screen related so it should be an easy fix, I would think.

I saw two of them come up on Amazon. I almost pulled the trigger but I will hold up for 65" one. If it had been at the 1799 Best Buy price also I probably would have pulled the trigger.

Lucky you, my one 65vts60 was delivered by Pilot with one guy. It arrived with a cracked screen and three deep gashes in the silver part of the bezel.
