To be fair, Sofia Coppola will be the first to tell you that her performance is awful in that movie. She only stepped in as an emergency last-minute replacement after Winona Ryder had a nervous breakdown. She wasn't supposed to be in the movie. Francis Coppola desperately needed somebody to stand in front of the camera and recite lines, and believed that he could coach his daughter through it. He was wrong.
However, I still don't understand why he couldn't have brought in a last minute replacement from the rolls of SAG.
It seems to me there would have been SOMEONE with professional experience who had some free time.
