Panasonic TC-65PS64 65" Plasma $1299.99 + 5 Year Warranty for only $99.99 - Page 3

I just got this from a local Costco. I called with the item number, and they don't have any stock but the display unit was for sale.
I ended up grabbing the display unit with a couple cosmetic scratches for $400 off, $999 with the 5 year squaretrade warranty for $1086. Great bang for the buck!

Sweet!

I know this is a 'deals' thread, but can anyone quickly comment on the refresh rate of the S60/S64 with 1080p material? Do you notice a flicker? I'm inclined to pull the trigger on a smaller 60" ST60 for the 96Hz refresh it can do.
I don't own this tv. Some have reported they don't mind the 48hz for the S60 models. Others just prefer using their bd player or tv at 60hz. The s60/s64 tv's do not have 96hz playback capability of 24p.

You would find quicker answers to questions like this if they were posted in the S60 / S64 owner's thread where questions are answered fairly quickly...http://www.avsforum.com/t/1461177/official-panasonic-s60-series-discussion-thread

I have had my TV for 3weeksish now, s64, and haven't really noticed much flicker at all

I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I love the TV so far. I do hear some buzzing when I have no sound on, but it's not noticeable when I'm listening to my TV.

This s64 in 65" has caught my attention. I just sold an old 70" xbr rear projection 720p and am ready for an upgrade. In my Costco I did not see one on display, but did see the Samsung 64" plasma I believe for $1299~. Costco online is showing the Panny in 65" still available for $1399.

Still trying to figure out if I am correct that the Panny is a much better set than the Samsung for roughly the same price....and then if i go with the panny is it better to have the s64 in 65" or the top rated st60 in 55" . Buying a tv is harder than buying a car or house :/

Beware the ST60 if you do any serious gaming. Input lag is an issue on those.

Love my 65" S64 so far. Awesome set.

Looks like Costco dropped the price of the S64 by $100 to $1299 (+$99 shipping + tax)

Yes, I can confirm in-store as well.. (The few stores that actually have it that is). I was fortunately able to get the $100 price adjustment (past the 30 days, but within the 90.) They simply returned it and charged it back with the lower price (and printed this transaction on the back of the orignal receipt)

Thanks vibrators for pointing this out!

Now $1288 at Sam's. This doesn't bode well for future availability of these sets. The display strategy is terrible for these at my local Sams (set up in a row with a bunch of LCD's on "Torch Mode".). This display doesn't compare well at all in that situation.

Man, now I really need to think about this one. Was wanting a 70" or larger TV, but this set has a great value proposition...
That is a great price for this set, but I am still holding out for the free shipping. No stores around me have it in stock, as I would gladly pick it up and $100 seems like a lot for threshold delivery.

Anyone know if we can get $100 back from Sam's online? I bought mine almost a month ago.

Just went to my local Sams club to have the price adjusted. The lady said there price guarantee policy is for 7 days from the date of purchase. You can return it for any reason for 90 days. And you have 30 days to come back to purchase their extended warranty...Thankfully I made it in on the 7th day..otherwise I would have been out the $100+ dollar difference. Funny how I felt I spent to much at the previous price, but after seeing this baby for a week and matching the new low price I feel like I got a steal! smile.gif Hope this information helps others. And to all the fathers out there have a Happy Fathers Day!

And I completely agree with whoever pointed out Sams club needs to rethink the product placement for this set..in the middle of a bunch of led's with the brightness maxed out! Had I never done my homework I would have missed out on what I believe the best picture you can get for your money..especially if you want it in a room with a decent amount of ambient light and enjoy to play shoot em up video games!! Thank you members of the AVS forum smile.gif

Hmm, since it's been over 30 days since my purchase date, I think I'm SOL and since I bought it through Sam's online, I wouldn't actually want to return it because of shipping hassles. I don't know if Mountain Man has made it over here, but he griped about the hassle of getting a refund through Sam's customer service when Costco first dropped the price a couple of months ago. I guess I could call them and see if they'd be willing to refund $100...

It's not just Sam's, but all TV stores - I think that is a reason that manufacturers are abandoning plasma - because at first glance they look dim and crappy compared to the bright LCDs on display and aren't selling as a result - maybe manufacturers would be better off to have the demo mode not use power savings and CATS (stores aren't going to care about power savings).

Is this thing gone from the costco website??? I've been watching this, but i dont see any panasonic tv models...anyone know whats up??

Did costco discontinued panasonic plasmas? I dont see them.
This is my first post on AVS. I read it all the time, and registered to relay this information. Costco often has items unique to on-line purchasing that is not in their stores. Few stores may or may not carry identical on-line items. In-store items likewise don’t appear on their website. For example, the Panasonic TC-P50S64 is available at the warehouse as item 850640 now at $699.99 (it is posted as $729.99 minus a $30 discount at checkout).

Some folks don’t know how to determine the quantity of items Costco sells on-line for a particular item. If you type a large number in the quantity box, and then click ADD to CART you will get an error message at the top in red IF you have exceeded the inventory on-line quantity.

I’ve been watching the 65” Panasonic for a few weeks, but can’t afford it right now. It’s been curious to watch how fast the inventory moves. The other day when Costco reduced the price of the 65” by $100 the sales picked-up dramatically.

Here are two screen shots I took on the last day the 65” sold out (it may or may not come back, we’ll have to wait and see):

Note on the attached photos the inscription in “red” as follows:

We’re sorry, only [x quantity] are available for item 865640. Please adjust your quantity and try again.

Due to inventory changes, item 865640 in your cart is no longer available. This item cannot be purchased at this time.

Hope this information is helpful in the future.

I was all set to order the S64 for my day (fathers) when it disappeared off the Costco website what the hell! Is this discontinued already? eek.gif I don't want to settle for the smaller 60ST60. mad.gif

I saw the $1299 sale two days ago and ordered one. Hopefully, it's as nice as advertised. I'm kind of nervous about getting a plasma and the burn-in process. With my current two Samsung LCD's, I just plugged them in and started watching. This will be my first plasma tv.
Maybe the S64s are just out of stock and they'll re-post it online when they get more stock?

At this discount rate or $100 a month, the 65S64 will be down to $800 by Black Friday! It's depreciating faster than a PC! Craig-Paul, you'll be able to afford it soon. I wish I could have waited and watched for price drops, but am not disappointed in my purchase even at $1400, even though it busted my original budget of under $1000 for a 60".

I just plugged mine in (and turned off power saving and CATS) and started watching. The only thing I tried to avoid was 4:3 content for black bars, but when set to FULL justification, it eliminates the bars. I mostly watch TV and flip to DVR'd content during commercials, which helps avoid any long term crawlers creating IR. I rarely have time to sit and watch an entire movie in one sitting.

HDTS,

In ref to your pm question:

Sam's price match is stated as within 7 days. Delivery of my 65PS64 was delayed to where delivery was 1 day after that and 2 reps and 2 supervisors were combative about the initial SAM'S $50 price drop. They were very discourteous.

I was disgusted enough, I contacted member cancellations planning to cancel and not hoping for anything else at that point... and spoke with my first genuinely interested and nice Sam's rep in mbr cancellations. She fixed it pronto and apologized saying she couldn't believe they were splitting hairs like that, so that may be an option if you're still close to the 7 day deadline regarding the latest price drop. I'm not; it's 1.5 months for me now, so I'm not going after this latest price drop.

For clarity, they say it is 7 days from when the order is placed, not from delivery date. Delivery delays made no difference to the first 4 people I contacted.

In the S60 thread, some had success getting the first S64 price drop matched a day or two outside the 7 days, some didn't. Seemed to come down to luck of the draw on which rep and/or supervisor one reaches with no expectation of uniformity. One guy said he called 3 pairs of reps/supervisors. 3rd pair simply said: No problem whereas the former - no dice.

To the thread: I replaced a defective 55ST60 with the 65PS64 because I didn't need or really want 3D. I'm really liking the S64 a lot. There is a lot of info on the S64's in the S60 thread.

I came from a 36" CRT, so both panels made me see filming motion errors a lot more - I thought mostly due to massively increased size - and I still think that is largely the case. I felt I was just getting used to that over the past 2.5 months (first month with the ST60) thankfully, but I'm now fairly convinced that there is truth to the notion that plasma TV's reduce "plasma trailing" somewhat during break in. I'm nearing 300 hours now and can no longer deny it. It has noticeably improved, IMHO. Just one guy's opinion(s).

Very happy with my S64. biggrin.gif

I guess I won't bother with the price matching since it's been over a month since ordering and about 3 weeks since delivery. I don't know if I got an extra year warranty with standard Advantage membership, but I'm pretty sure I got an additional year warranty with Discover Card. I hardly buy anything in bulk and they close so early at 8:30 pm (I'm a night owl and do most of my shopping late night), so might cancel my membership just before the year is up if they don't pro-rate the membership fee...

Wow, I have been casually browsing for a 60-65 tv for years now and happened to browse Costco Saturday and buy one of these. I wanted the ST60 but don't ever use 3d so figured this was a great set for me. Hopefully this comes in fairly fast because the anticipation is killing me.

Just logged on to Costco. Their inventory is now back up to 107 quantity of the Panasonic 65" 1080p Plasma TV TC-65PS64, item # 865640. Base price is still at $1299.99

Type in a large number on the Costco website and add it to your cart. If the number exceeds your quantity a red notice will appear at the top with current on-line inventory.

Quick link: http://www.costco.com/Panasonic-65%22-1080p-Plasma-TV-TC-65PS64.product.100043008.html?catalogId=10701&categoryId=30771&identifier=plasma-tvs&langId=-1&storeId=10301

Hope this helps.

Edit 1 (about 24 hours later):
I checked the Costco inventory 21 hours after my original post and the on-line inventory was down from 107 units to 83 (I had been checking regularly watching the inventory change). Now, as I post an update (about 24 hours since my OP), the inventory is back up to 90.

Question for those who had the PS64 delivered. With "threshhold delivery" the carrier just delivers it inside and you'd have to open the box yourself and inspect it before giving the final ok? Or just opt for the "white glove" delivery. Thanks.
Yes, "threshold delivery" is just inside to 1 room near the entry. I think the brochure says they won't even deliver to an upper floor room. I don't know if "white glove" delivery is even available from their on-line store.
