This article hasn't received much coverage.
Samsung exec in Europe has warned current 4k televisions will soon face compatibility issues.

Nice find. I think there's a fair bit of FUD in there in that I think pretty much all the issues he lists would be solved with hdmi 2.0, but he lists that as only one of several challenges. Most of the other challenges have to do with transmission and storage formats, and certainly they have yet to shake out (to put it mildly).

However, in terms of buying the sets themselves, I wouldn't hesitate to get a 4K set once they ship with hdmi 2.0 which is supposed to allow 4K/60fps. The standard for hdmi 2.0 is due later this year, and it's *possible* we'll see some sets ship with it in CY 2013. I think Vizio is waiting on pricing and timing for its (previously announced) 4K sets until they have better visibility on this.

I wouldn't be surprised if all this happened instead in 2014 and in fact I'd lay money that CES 2014 will show a metric ton of 4K/hdmi 2.0 sets pretty much ready to go per usual roll outs.

Right, but the lack of HDMI 2.0 could turn out a serious limitation.

HDMI 2.0 is really only necessary for games and the possibility of 4k broadcasts at over 30 frames.

For movies, the Seiki display does 4k2k@24 - which is what all movies (except the new Hobbit movies) are filmed at.

I don't play any games on my LG 4K TV, so movies played at 24fps or 30fps is fine for me, as I only watch movies and TV programs on it.
