Upgrading from Polk Monitor 60 II's

This kind of stuff normally gets beat to death but I'm going to do it anyways. smile.gif

I have a Denon AVR-1712 with 2 Polk Monitor 60 IIs as L/R and a CS1 Center. I also just picked up a Klipsch RW-12d.

My wife and I are hoping we'll be closing on a house middle of June, it already appraised and we have the inspection tomorrow. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

I've been pretty happy with the Polks but with the new house comes new furniture and of course I need to upgrade the speakers...right? wink.gif

So, I was looking for suggestions in the price range of $1200 for the L/R/C + 2 surrounds. The living room is large and opens to the kitchen and dining room so it's certainly not ideal but it make my wife happy.

I've been reading the forum for a couple of days now and read good things about the Ascend CMT-340s. Priced them for L/R and a 340 center, plus 2 CBM-170s, with stands and wall mounts right at $1200 (B-Stock items). I could also do Aperion Intimus 4T towers, 4C, and 4Bs, with wall mounts right at $1085.

I'd like to get people's thoughts on these as well as other suggestions for some new speakers at or below $1200.

Do you have the ability to use floor standers for surounds? If you do, you could move your existing Monitor 60's to the rear and get some new Polks for the the front.

Not likely. I have two 65 pound dogs...floorstanding speaker hanging out in the middle of the room is just asking for them to be knocked over. Combine that with the need for end tables (WAF) and it looks like wall mounting is the way to go.

I'll take pictures and measurements of the room tomorrow so people have a better idea of the space.

Yah, spouses, kids, and pets always ruin things.

I was able to find some pictures of the place online. Let me know what you guys think after seeing this.

I also noted what I believe to be the best speaker placement. Putting them on stands is something I'll try to convince my wife of.

I could also put the speakers on that space near the ceiling at the back.

Here are some more pictures of the house. I'm thinking towers and horizontal center up front. Two wall mounted surrounds: one between the two back doors and one on the bookshelf (would still be wall mounted just in the shelf space). Still going to work on getting the wife to agree to speaker stands for surrounds.

Would the Ascend's/Aperion's be good in this space? I'm not looking for reference levels, my wife yells at me when I hit -30dB on the Polks. Just looking for good clean, quality sound.

And the house passed inspection with flying colors. A couple of minor minor issues but the inspectors said it was one of the best houses they've seen. Better than most homes 15 years newer than it and the best one they've seen in 5 years. biggrin.gif

Yes. The Ascends would work well in that space.

However, that is a big open space with all those room areas. Wouldn't hurt to have a 2nd RW-12d if you can persuade the wife smile.gif

I just got the first one! lol

Any opinion of the Aperion 4s vs the Ascends? Or something else in that price range?
