Would anyone be able to confirm if the Nintendo Wii (Composite) and PlayStation 2 (Component) are compatible with the HDMI conversion? Also, I don't think I got a specific answer: Has anyone noticed input lag with the conversion?

Hey Guys,

Just got the 1604. Had a Denon but the HDMI inputs got fried so got the Marantz. Went through the setup using Audessey.

My setup is Left, Center and Right. Bose speakers with the built in subwoofer. The ones with 3 dual small speakers and a bass box. I get no bass at all. Denon with the same setup would shake the floor.

Does this receiver not like the built in "subwoofer" Bose uses or I am missing something.

Thanks for all the help.

Tried blu ray rip mkv, blu ray, TV shows but nothing.

My understanding of modern receivers is that decoding of audio is okay and some have up-scaling video features (the Marnatz NR-1504 does not have video up-scaling).

Video decode of your rips is handled by another device; i.e. media player. There is a HDMI port at the back of the NR-1604 that is labeled for such a device.

There might be an option to turn off sub output if enabled, or set the speakers as "full," or "large." With my old Denon, if I didn't set the FL & FR as large/full range they wouldn't receive audio below crossover, or it was much less emphasized.

Thanks for the reply. Under manual setup i set the front and center to large and sub to no. But no dice.

I am ok with that but i get no bass even playing Blu Ray from a PS3.

New strange problem. I have my 1604 connected to my Samsung TV via HDMI ARC. Up until yesterday, all has been working fine with the receiver automatically turning on and off with the TV. But since yesterday , it turns on ok, but after turning the TV off, the receiver turns off, and then about a minute later turns back on. Any ideas on what changed? I didn't change anything.

These symptoms suggest that the subwoofer is not connected or is disabled in the speaker itself.

Exactly what model are these speakers? I'm unfamiliar with them.

It is the Bose Acoustimass system. 3 Speakers and a bass module.

I still have a problem with my 1504 in which everytime the doorbell rings, the tv screen goes to blue and goes back to its state (TV, Media Player and the rest of the sources).

Could this be a ground issue? Thanks

That'd be one of my guesses. Another is that for some reason the doorbell itself is sparking and generating noise everywhere.

So I talked to tech support and they said turn off Audyssey and use the tone control in the Audio settings to change the bass but no luck. So I have to return this. Really liked the whole thing but what can you do. I am sure it will work if I buy a separate sub.

Hi doonboy,

I went to Bose website to look at the Acoustimass speaker system. There are two varieties, one looks to be an old version called Acoustimass 3 speaker system that has a small box satellite coupled with the Acoustimass module. There is also the newer and larger Acoustimass 5 speaker speaker system that has what looks to be larger satellite speakers.

The wiring diagram on page 7 of the Acoustimass 5 is interesting. The receiver power output terminals connect via the standard speaker cables to the Acoustimass unit. Bose has it's own proprietary cables that connect the satellites to the the Acoustimass unit. An educated guess is that Acoustimass unit is expecting a full range signal from the receiver which splits the low frequencies to the bass module and higher frequencies to the satellites. The Bose Acoustimass module has no LFE input so it would not be possible to have the .1 signals from the Marantz receiver.

The key then is to tell the Marantz NR-1604 that the Bose speakers you are connecting to are "large" and full range.

One test that you can do is select DIRECT or PURE DIRECT sound mode on the Marantz. I've discovered that in DIRECT/PURE DIRECT mode, the full range signal goes to the front left and right speakers only, there is no LFE signals and my sub isn't working at all. This configuration may work in favor with the Bose speaker system and you can check if the Acoustimass module is putting out bass.

And now, today, everything is back to normal. I didn't do anything different!

^^
As is often noted in this forum ... HDMI can be tricky ... doing what you want it to do at times ... and not what you want it do at other times.

When using DIRECT/PURE DIRECT, the AVR does no DSP processing so there is no bass management and Audyssey is disabled, rather the signal that comes in simply goes out to the respective speaker and if there is no 0.1 LFE input, there is nothing going to the sub.

AIRPLAY QUESTION - HELP PLEASE

I have the NR1504, and I cannot use AirPlay.

The Marantz remote control app works with my iPhone 42, but curiously, AirPlay will not.

I don't understand why, or how to enable AirPlay.

Any advice ore help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
I am unsure why you are unable to use the airplay with your 4s iPhone.

Do you have your NR1504 and iPhone on the same network?

The control for airplay can be found on your iPhone. Did you fine and use this setting? There is a pull up type screen from the bottom that you swipe upwards to get onto the iPhone screen. One of the options is airplay.
You can also use airplay from iTunes on a computer as well.

Hopefully the above will get you started to a good airplay experience.

Thank you. I have NR 1504 connected to the same router that emits the wireless signal my iPhone connects to. As I noted, I can use the Marantz iPhone remote control app, but not the Airplay. I don't really know what that means.

Do I need to turn the Marantz input selector to 'Network' or something?

Or is there a setting in the router that must be enabled or turned on?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

rek

See if your iPhone is indeed on the network (wifi setting on the iPhone)

Try to swipe upwards on the main screen to bring up that particular window that offers "airplay." Did you find this already?

You don't need the Marantz app for this at all. This is iPhone IOS only to do the connection.

Do you have iTunes on a computer? Have you tried doing airplay from your computer? I ask so you can see if that works and if not, likely some handshake issue. If yes, then one step closer to the iPhone.

Hi people, looking to buy a 1604 but would like to know if the unit has to be powered on to get a picture on the TV from a PVR that is connected to the 1604 via HDMI?

In simpler terms, does the 1604 pass through HDMI signals when powered off?

Yes. You can define a default HDMI input to pass through when the AVR is off.

Yes, and in fact with the 2013 models (eg. 1604) the mfr default "pass through" source is the cable/sat box. smile.gif

many thanks for the reply gents

my other 1/2 likes simple operation so she doesn't mind it if the audio comes out of the TV speakers rather than the AVR speakers. And on my behalf, i'd rather not have soapies audio coming out the the AVR speakers! ;)

My receiver pointed me to a firmware update this morning...  Anyone know what the update does?

Well, in my case, the PS2 worked sometimes. Right now it doesn't anymore. I just switched the PS2 and the Marantz on and wanted to play - and have no picture anymore. This seems to happen to analog picture sources. Last time I got it back working be clearing all input sources and configuring them all again.

This sucks massively. I can't recommend this thing for analog image sources anymore.

Hello All,

Looking for some information before replacing my current homecinema-set I came upon this forum.

Already went through al lot of information but I can't find what I'm looknig for.

At this moment my homecinema-set consists of a Harman Kardon AVR347, a Harman Kardon DVD47 and the Harman Kardon HKTS7 5.1 speakerset with separate PBS Image T55 just for stereo.

I would like to replace the AVR347 with a receiver that has network-functionality and can run Spotify.

After a lot of advise my mind is set on Marantz, keeping in mind I mostly listen to music (both stereo and SACD, hence the DVD47).

I'm thinking of the Marantz N1604 or SR5008, combined with the UD5007.

It's quite a lot of money, so I'm taking some time to make a decision...

Can you guys give me some advise?

Thanks and kind regards,

Peter.
