Other than stating the the BS22 is a total different speaker than Series 1, and that I don't find the bass to be muddy, I agree with you. It's personal preference and there are good speakers out there. My point was that at $500 (for the towers, not the bookshelves) the FS52 (paired with a sub) seems to be the jack of all trades.

I don't think the OP will be disappointed with he BS22. I'm certainly not.

Not suggesting that and for the price, these AJ Pioneers are very hard to beat. Another poster said the towers were as good/better than anything 500/less and i was simply replying to that. If you have 500 dollars for a pr of speakers, I would recommend other choices...

hahaha, that was me who made the statement so I was making an attempt to defend my post. At $250 a speaker each, what do you like better? I'm just curious. From what I read, people like the Primus 363, and they have been around for much longer, but professional reviewers seem favor the new 52s Pioneers. Not having a "trained" ear and not having auditioned to a lot of speakers, I was basing my comments on that.

You may be able to find a good deal on some refurbished speakers, or get some secondhand. The Polk Ebay store is a great place.

New, I would look at HTD Level 2 Towers, Arx A3c, Infinity P363, and the BIC Acoustech PL-89. I don't think anything can beat the Pioneers in terms of value (except for maybe my black friday E55Ti's cool.gif), but if you can spend $500, these are good options.

The Infinity Primus p363 is on sale freq for 108/spk, if you live near a Fry's electronic (often in store only)...so those compare very favorable in price and in SQ. After that, it is a matter of taste. Like I said, I had the series one bookshelf, Polk Monitor 40s and the Infinity p163 all in my room at once doing A/B comparisons and like the p163 > Polks > Pioneers. My guess is that others would have a different opinion about the same comparison...

to answer your question and yes, I have heard the Pioneer series II towers, My EMPtek were 400/pr and IMHO, a much more balanced speaker. I think the p363 is a better speaker. I have NOT heard the new Polk Monitor line, so I cannot compare. Right now, you can get a pair of Ascend Acoust CMT350 for 500/pr and those are better.

But if your point is at 77 dollars per speaker, they have no equal, then I agree!

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments.
I listened to Pioneer BS22 and Polk Tsx100, T15 at a BestBuy store.
Not sure if there was something wrong with speaker setup/config(as they were tied to same Yamaha receiver), but we felt that the sound from Pioneer felt like it was kind of suppressed. Polk threw a louder sound with same level from receiver than Pioneer and initial impression was that its better.
I think, with Polk the instruments sounded louder while with Pioneer I could hear the voice clearly.

Can you please help me if there is any fundamental difference between these 2 speakers, which made me feel the difference? Or probably the config was just messed up?

Yes, the Pioneer center speaker seemed huge and seems to be a concern for me as I am planning to carry it back to India.
I will also have to postpone buying subwoofer as I will not have any luggage space smile.gif

Thanks.
