The most direct comparison would be bf4, where it feels like more than half of the game (player/vehicle models, sounds, etc) were ripped straight from bf3. I'm also pretty damn sure soul calibur has been using the exact same animations for certain characters for 5 games straight. It's expensive to create these assets, obviously they're going to reuse quite a bit of it. They're not just throwing away all their work from past games. So if they had an existing mocap from 5 years ago that fit their needs for a certain scene, they can tweak it a bit and save days of work. I've played through mw2 like 5 times and I didn't notice the similarity, OTOH I did notice that reused garage in mw3 immediately.
Either way, the difference between a ripoff and a homage has always been whether or not you like it. Play through the campaign first and then tell me if you still think they were lazy. There's plenty of valid criticisms to be made towards the campaign or cod in general, but lazy isn't one of them.
