Just to be 100% certain, have you upgraded to the very latest & greatest firmware, done a full reset after, THEN applied settings?

All of these sources work perfectly when connected to my circa-2008 Samsung LCD. I suspect it's toast and will have to return it. It was like this right out of the box.

Tried different cables, tried updating to the latest firmware, tried a factory reset. Can't really think of anything else to do.

Gizmotoy,

Are the different cables you tried new cables? I haven't searched this thread, but I think I remember that a few months ago some people were having problems with hdmi cables. I don't remember the details, but some people had older cables that wouldn't work but new cables did. I think maybe there were different technical standards for the new cables.

Forgive the silly suggestion, but do you get a black screen from your AVR connection with your AVR power turned on? When I switch my tv input to my Denon AVR, I get only a floating "Denon" on the tv until I turn on the AVR power. You may want to run a cable from your STB or satellite box to your tv to try to get a working picture, and then start with your AVR, etc. A few people had issues with all hdmi connectivity, so that's a possibility, but hopefully that's not the case. It's also worth a call to Samsung tech support.

Good luck,

David

Tried using the calibration setting on my F7100 55" found here by PiratesCove,

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1470900/official-samsung-unxxf7100-owners-thread/3030#post_23936887

*Note - this is a critique, NOT criticism, if these setting worked for you, I'm glad they did!
Thank you PiratesCove!

I was switching between three football games, Big Ten championship, ACC championship and a Big 8 game.
The color looked subdued and the field looked washed out to me. Player uniforms were overly red.

I then watched "Father of the Bride" with Steve Martin on TBS HD.
There are several dark scenes that were way too dark, the color looked more like black and white to me.
Snow scenes dull, the snow color was not right. Facial color was good but looked flat.

The only change I made was backlight, from 14 to 10, and that helped some.

I have not tried pay per view HD or a Blu-Ray DVD.

My firmware version is v1111, so maybe an update would help?

Can anyone suggest any tweaks to try on PirateCoves settings?

I'm going to spend the afternoon getting my F7100 60" going. Just so I'm sure I am going through the correct process, is it:

1. HDMI 1 (I think it's labeled 'STB') on TV to HDMI Out on AVR
2. Be sure power is on for the TV and AVR
3. Go through the setup process to connect the TV to the wirelss in your home (I am at this point, and I'm having major trouble with this one, and no help from Samsung or the router mfg so far... seems I can't use my WPS button on the router to make it connect)
4. Update firmware to the latest version
5. Do a full reset on the TV
6. Go through and make your preferred settings (per several folk's recc. on here... I'll start with Pirate's, just because I'm not too far away from Pirate's Cove!!)

That looks right to me.

What issue are you having doing wireless?

Try to set it up manually and enter your password..

A good way to check the TV's calibration settings is to use the Picture Test in the Self Diagnostic Menu located within the Support Menu. If the picture looks washed out with a brightness level of 33, youv'e got TV issues. If not, you have a setting wrong on the STB or TV... mabye like HDMI Normal/Low. At brightness 33, my TV is WAY DARK! I Hope this helps lead you to a solution since setting brigntness at level 33 is most likly NOT going give an accurate picture viewing experience & WAY lower that factory default. Using calibration software I downloaded (visual only, not as accurate as a meter) my TV set at Brightness of 45 appears correct to my eyes. Of course each panel is slightly different & may fall at a slightly lower or higher value. Without an actual meter to accurately measure with, this software helped my picture quality quite a bit. The source Blu-ray player needed to be set back factory defaults (picture adjustment section) prior to setting up the TV with it to help ensure the source Calibration software being sent to the TV was accurate (no tweaks) internal to the blu-ray picture processing settings. The software I downloaded for the TV basic calibration was AVS HD 709 Cal tool or somthing similar to that. Not the perfect tool but good enough for my needs & has help many others as well.

You could turn the color setting up to your liking.

An accurate picture may look "washed-out and dull" initially.

This more traditional stand should fit:

Hi there fellas
My un65f7050 has some serious clouding. Based on some suggestion here I tried massaging the screen and noticed that it got worse. The spot that I massaged now show even more clouding. I can return the tv back but I won't get the price I bought it for. Any suggestion what should I do?

msny - I suggest you update your firmware. You are using 1111, and I've read that 1117 is out. I am using 1116. Some of the more recent firmware updates have improved the F7100's picture considerably.

Also, you owe it to yourself to watch some Blu-rays. The F7100 is very sensitive to content. A Blu-ray movie will really show you what the set can do.

Thank you David, your right of course, I will do a firmware upgrade.

Can you give me the procedure for the upgrade?
My wireless is ready to go and I understand I can do it that way.
Also, does it take along time?

Any tips appreciated.

msny,

It's very easy once your set is on your wifi network:

menu
support
software update
update now

It may take a while, especially from 1111, perhaps a half hour or so. But it's worth it.

Yes, the CNET settings are very close to factory default- not my taste.

Sure, Firmware Version 1117 looks great and fixes some past bugs.

Thanks I just did the firmware upgrade in 3 minutes and 48 seconds.
I will recheck everything now.

I agree with you, the privacy issues really concerned me, as well. I also declined most of them, because I don't like being spied on or having private conversations sent to a 3rd party in Ireland.

Even though it's just one pixel, you paid close to $2000 for a new TV and should be satisfied with it. I doubt it will get any better, so just set up an exchange with Costco. Good luck!

Glad you got it done! I didn't expect your update to be that quick, but I said a half hour so you wouldn't worry if it took a while.

I just got a new Samsung 7100 series.  I have a Pioneer VSX-1021.

I have hooked up the output on the receiver to the HDMI 2(ARC).  I have turned on Anynet+ on the TV.

I have directv hooked up to the reciever and then out to the TV.

Here is what happens:

When I turn on TV I get directv for a few seconds, it then tells me it lost signal.  I have to go back to smart hub, and go to an app like net flix and open it, then close it.  ONce I do this, my directv picture and audio come back on.  From that point on the ARC works properly......

Any thoughts on what is going wrong here?

I am new to the forums but I must say I am impressed with the knowledge here. I am experiencing washed out colors as well no matter what settings I do. After reading through I noticed that it may have something to do with the HDMI Black Level. I am in standard mode and can not adjust this setting. It is grayed out is this normal and if its not is there any wau to fix this. I have been trying to "fix" my picture for three months now and I think this is the cure to my headache. Thanks in advance

when I have direct tv as the input it's greyed out for me as well and set to normal(0-255). If I have one of my game consoles plugged in it lets me change from normal to low. I'm not really sure why the directv one is locked, but I can't find any option on the directv receiver to change it so I assume it's correct. Does not looked washed out. However, for the consoles, if they are not set correctly they will looked washed out.

So the key is to match whatever device you have hooked up to the TVs setting. If yours is locked in Normal mode then you need your device to be in (0-255). It's called different things for different devices and can get really confusing. For instance my Denon's "Normal" mode is actually the opposite of the Samsungs. Expanded is (0-255) forth at and normal is (16-235). PS3 is called "Full". That may or may not be your issue, but it's best to match the values if you can.

I'm new here. Just purchased the 60" over black friday week from Amazon and I really love the size and picture quality. Unfortunately, it looks like I got stuck with a bad panel as I have flashlighting in one corner and major clouding from the middle top all the way down to the lower left corner (tried many different settings). That issue alone has made me decide to try and return/replace it.

Here's a picture of the clouding in pitch black room. Please note the image has been over saturated and sharpened so the clouding is visible. My phone could never quite get it to show up (very visible to the naked eye though, especially in darker movies). I believe this was a loading screen of an app I opened from the smart hub.

I also experienced an issue with wi-fi that when the tv is connected to 2.4ghz, it constantly disconnects and freezes up my router, while at the same time, kicking my other network devices off the network. I can connect with 5ghz and the tv will stay connected just fine, but still interferes with my other network devices by either disconnecting them or causing network to slow down so much that it's unusable. Apparently the slowdown only happens with other devices, not the tv (or at least the apps) since streaming netflix or amazon prime looks amazing (50/10mbit connection).

I should note that all firmware is the very latest on tv (updated through usb stick) and router.

I was wondering if anyone had noticed this before (did a quick cursory search and didn't see anything off hand)?  My router is a asus rt-n56u which I've never had problems with in the past. My first guess was the built in wifi chip is defective and is causing interference on the network, which would be issue #2 causing a return. I can't believe this would be a normal behavior.

Thanks for any feedback.
