I finally ordered this TV (55") off Amazon and got it 13 days ago. I've had a love/hate affair with it. I only use this TV for PS3 gaming, but I have watched quite a few animes on it in order to see how much the picture could "pop" with all the colors.
What I love about it is the overall picture quality. It took a while to get it looking good as I found the PQ to be pretty blurry out the box. I already have a Samsung un60eh6000 that has an amazing picture, so I've been comparing the two. After using the settings in this thread and mixing them with the eh6000 settings, the picture is looking fantastic.
...as long as there isn't any horizontal movement. And there's the hate part. When the screen is focused on talking, still action, pictures, etc., the PQ is dazzling; however, any kind of semi to fast horizontal moment, and it gets jittery. I've played MLB The Show 13 and everything looks great until you're fielding. The ball is hit to you and you start to throw, everything on the screen jitters so much that it's hard to even see the play. Watching TV shows or animes, any time there's a horizontal pan like a person walking, it's never a "smooth" walk - there will always be a jerk, jitter or hitch in their step. It's just never "smooth." Now, the jittery with The Show might just be the game, but I haven't watched a show yet where the entire show went without some kind of jitter. There's probably a more technical term for what's going on, but the best way I can describe this TV's ability to handle movement is "jittery." I use "Clear" on the eh6000 for Motion Control and like it, but Clear on this TV makes movement so jittery that it almost gives me a headache. I've switched to Smooth and Standard, with Standard being my favorite so far, but Standard presents another problem. While there's far less jitter, dark images ghost real bad and IMO sometimes the colors get washed out during a fast pan. I noticed this while playing Last of Us. If I swing the camera around really fast, it's like the colors dull out, and once you stop the camera, you can literally see them pop back to the colors they're supposed to be. Also, on an anime, there's a beginning where the screen pans horizontally to a girl walking who's wearing a black coat, and as it is panning, the black is smearing off the coat until the camera stops and focuses on the girl. I believe this is referred to as ghosting but forgive me if it's not.
Other than the above, and the above is driving me crazy, there is minor light bleed in all 4 corners when there is a completely black loading screen or whatever, but nothing too bad and something I can live with. But I have got to find a way to fix this motion issue or I'm going to have to get Amazon to pick it back up. I'm using Movie mode and the settings listed a few pages back to play the PS3 on. The only differences is that I do have Digital Clean View set to Low, as I could see a lot of static while playing Last of Us, and the Low makes it look perfect. FYI, the problems with the motion doesn't have anything to do with me changing that setting as I just changed the DCV setting 2 days ago, while the jittery problem has been prevalent since I started using the TV.
Just a little disappointed so far as my 60" eh6000 has almost just as a good of a picture for about $800 less. I can already tell I won't be using the 3D enough to justify the extra money for that. The reason I did buy this TV and not another eh6000 is that I wanted a TV that had a high Clear Motion Rate. So far, however, this TV (in my eyes), handles motion worse. Hopefully, I can find the right settings to correct this problem and I'll have the perfect TV.
