I initially looked very closely at the statements before going with the AE's. I'm going to spend quite a bit of time over the next couple months going over additional room treatments before making any final judgements. They really do a lot of things well, if I could figure out the random harshness I would be perfectly content. Mat has offered additional help, I just need to find the time to do some more investigating. They are obviously not bad enough that I have quit listening to them. smile.gif

Is the harshness in the same place if you play the same piece over or just random? If you can reproduce it in the same place, it may be the content and it might just be revealed more now than before.

The harshness is definitely at a certain frequency. It manifests itself mostly in vocals, which leads me to believe it's either a xover issue or room problem. I never had this problem with my Axioms though, so it's a little surprising it could be the room, especially due to the fact that the wg's have a lot better directionality.

Can you reproduce it with a specific track or content? As in the same area etc. Just curious because this allow other's to test the same and possible lead to a fix. I've heard harshness in audio in some HD audio tracks, but I have attributed it to the actual recording, but your issue may be quite different and if it's not noticeable on other systems we could possible narrow down the issue.

Use a good pair of headphones. Do you hear the same harshness in those tracks? More than likely, it is NOT the room. Most logical is that something is poorly adjusted in your design, or you've found a few recordings that have issues of their own and the new speakers are showing you these problems more clearly than you are used to.

I'm familiar with good speakers revealing flaws in poor recordings. This isn't it. It manifests itself during both movies and music.

Happens with Audyssey on and off?

I think so lol. I've gone through so many different scenarios, I've forgotten.

I've had Audyssey make the mids honky and harsh before. I don't like to use it anymore.

Travis, have you done anything else with these yet??

Bass Addict, you had mentioned In another thread about re-doing your LCR x-overs to Mtg90's newer design, has this happened yet?

Funny you should mention that. They are sitting on the speaker right now ready to get reinstalled.

I'll have some updated listening impressions in the next few days. I'm just finishing up my other sub box, so after this is done I'll get everything back together and tweaked.

When you get a chance, I'd love to hear your impression.
I bought the parts for Matt's Rev. 1 (TD15M-4 +DNA360), and when I finally got around to building them out he released Rev.2, so I purchased the needed parts & built those out instead.
I love them, a lot more depth than my TD12M-8 + DNA360 build, but I love those too.
I have no means of measuring yet (other toys I want first), until then I go by others impressions, and I like your honesty In such.

Well I got them put back together yesterday and sat down for a brief listening session with some SACD/DVDA. I will say that the system definitely needs to be re calibrated prior to making any conclusions. With the new crossovers, the levels got pulled down a bit. My surrounds are overpowering the mains by a fair margin. I only listened to a couple tracks but the initial impressions are encouraging. Once I recalibrate everything I will sit down and give some more in depth detail.
