Build me a 5.1 system for $1,000?

Just curious how good of a system I can get with $1,000 total for receiver and speakers. I was planning on getting Denon 1913 from Crutchfield for $399. Speakers for $600 I don't know...

Also I can go a little over $1,000, but let's see how close we can get. If I need to buy surround speakers later and have 3.1 now, I would do that as long as that will sound better than my Onkyo SRS606 HTiB 5.1 system that I have now (I have a feeling that answer is yes)?

Room is 14' x 20'. I sit about the full 14' feet away from the TV. Surround can go on the edges of the 10' couch and I have about 5' on each side of the TV for front speakers. Also, I live in a condo with neighbors to the right/left, but no one above or below me...so, I don't want to make the neighbors think there is an earthquake if possible.

Check out this review of the Pioneer Andrew Jones speakers: http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/floorstanding/pioneer-sp-pk52fs

Tiger Direct has the towers for $98 a piece. The bookshelves and center often go on sale, so you could pick these up in pieces. Should be able to get the rest of them for around $200 or less.

Add the BIC F12 sub ($202 @ Amazon) or even better the Klipsch RW-12d (currently $279 at Newegg with promo code).

Then you just need a receiver.

Is that TigerDirect deal a rare/great deal, or might it still be around in a month's time? I was going to sell my other stuff first before buying, but if it's a really good deal, I should do it now.

They seem to pop up on special occasionally, but I don't follow it close enough to know the frequency. You might ask questions in the Andrew Jones Pioneer owners thread: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1278774/pioneers-speaker-genius-hits-low-price-point

ac4less has a bunch of 5.1 speaker systems for under $500. I personally find the Mordaunt Shorts interesting but they have Boston Acoustics, KEF and others as well.

Not sure if anyone cares, but I always hate when people start threads and don't finish the story and I have to go searching again. So in case anyone reads this, I got the Pioneer speakers all on sale for a total of $320, plus the RW-12d sub for $280, and the Denon 1713 for $340 for a total of $940, just under the $1,000 budget biggrin.gif sounds great!
