I doubt it's a source issue, I'm using the same shaw gateway box and HDMI cable I was running on my last tv with no issues what so ever, my bedroom LCD watching the same game isn't having any issues at all either.

Sounds good, let me know if it does it on blu ray as well as I am curious. Im going to contact them as well, as it seems we have 3 owners with the identical problem. The more people that bug them the better. A bit ridiculous to have these kind of problems in 2013.

i to see the pops with hockey but i have not noticed it with any other sources blu-ray looks fine i have directv and all the movie channels look good NHL Network at first i thought it was camera flashes and strobes but there is some of that but there is something else happening. i turned the contrast to 70 to see it's a little less but still there a bit but better. or is it just my imagination.

Heres a video of my TV (PN60F5500). The dimming on it's own is most noticeable at the 8 second and 42 second marks of the video as the screen goes dim, then more dim, then pops back. Very annoying. All Eco and Energy saving functions are off.

I've played with everything and as soon as I thought it to get a bit better 5 mins later it would be back to the same thing unfortunately.

Hope samsung can fix this via a firmware update. As long as it does not do this for Bluy- ray and NFL footbsll im good to go! If they fixed this problem in the F8500 series they should be able to do it in the F5500 series.

i just had a new issue went into apps yesterday and played an Episode of Battle star galactic with (Amazon Instant ) finished watching it closed the app but the tv didn't go back to the the last TV channel i was watching but it gave me a black screen. this is my set up Directv Genie going into my Onkyo TX-NR616 av receiver then going into HDMI 2 (ARC) into the PN51F5500 TV.
at first i thought it was odd maybe a HDMI handshake thing so i changed the Cables i had a Brand new high speed cable so i replaced it. ?????? then i thought maybe the reciever went out i reset it still nothing. all the smart stuff was still working just no source feed into HDMI 2. to make a long story shorter i reset every thing except do a factory reset on the TV i don't even know what i did but i got everything working again. mind you this has happened before but i thought maybe the TV switched source to HDMI 1 by default so i went back and forth and it worked. so i didn't think much more about it untill yesterday
so this morning i tried and tested it again watched something in netflix everthing looked good closed APP and everything was good watched more of the today show then just before i went to work i went into Amazon instant watched some episode of star gate atlantis watched it for 15 min. and closed the APP and sure enough a Black Screen again took a deep breath powered everthing off TV, Receiver, and the Genie. after a few %*#K words i powered everything off then back on again and all was good again.

this is a problem for me if the tv can't find it's way back after closing Amazon instant it's almost like ( i'm just assuming here) it locks up while trying to switch back to HDMI 2 ??????? don't know

I had a long phone call with samsung about the brightness pops while watching hockey I explained that i was on a forum that the F8500 was having the same issue and they got a firmware update that addressed it and people in the forum thread are very happy that they no longer see fluctuations. so please get us the same fix.
i think if enough of us call and report this issue we too will get it fixed via firmware update

I had intended to call today but ended up just being slammed with things I will be calling them tomorrow to report the issue with mine as well. How they deal with the issue will determine whether I keep the TV or not. I really love the TV otherwise but at the same time I don't want to be stuck with one that I can't watch hockey on either.

Here's the garbage response I got from Samsung via e-mail, pretty useless to say the least. I'm just going to keep harassing them until they get me a fix. Resetting the TV doesn't do anything to fix the problem.

i also talked with an agent last night a said basically the same thing, so time will tell and if enough of us point this out to them maybe something will happen for us as well.

Here is a copy of the E-mail I just sent to Samsung.

Hi there,

A few days ago I bought this 60" 3D Plasma television. When watching hockey games the screen gets a lot of flickering and brightens and dims itself on its own.

I have made sure all the eco features are off, tried a bunch of different picture settings, reset the tv to factory settings, changed the hdmi cable that I am using for the source and even switched the cable box that was providing the feed. When watching the same game on the same channel with the same HDMI cable through the same box on my Samsung LN46A750 I do not have these issues.

I took a video that shows the flickering located here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJClrJ6o7TE

I am also a member of an audio/video forum and it seems all the other members that have this tv are having the same issues, the thread is located here:
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1471297/pnxxf5500-owners-thread/30

It is my understanding that the F8500 series was having the same issue and Samsung just released a firmware update for that TV that solved the problem, I was wondering when we could expect the same update and if this is a problem that Samsung is aware of.

This is the 4th Samsung TV that I have bought in a row and I have been happy with all of them but I still have the box for this one and am within my return window so unfortunately if it looks like nothing is being done to fix the problem I will be returning it for a Panasonic Plasma.

Thank you and I look forward to your reply,

I agree, love this TV and Samsung TVs in general, since I bought my first Samsung they're the only tvs I have bought, including computer monitors and I always recommend them.

I love this PN60F5500 as well, picture quality, brightness and colours are fantastic as well as the features but I watch a lot of hockey and can't have this going on, especially when one of the reasons I bought a Plasma this time around is that I was under the impression that they are the best for watching sports on lol.

i'm watching the rays and the jays no pops what so ever i think it's just hockey all that ice up and down the ice and fast action

Yes just ice hockey! what the hell is that ... you're right I'm getting a headache from the hockey, its like constant every few seconds with the brightness fluctuations, it makes no sense at all. If Samsung doesn't fix this soon im never buying Samsung again. If it wasnt for the price I got the TV for it would be going back. Im not too willing to spend $500 more for a panasonic that is non-3D, not to mention the pain it would be trying to get it returned. But this brightness thing is brutal for hockey which is why I Bought the TV for the playoffs

Yes in Canada, electronics here are pretty ridiculous sometimes. Luckily I got the Samsung 60 inch for under a grand price matching. The next one up is the S60 Panasonic and its like 1400, no way im paying that. I find the 60 inch samsung great for everything but hockey. and im not going LG as ive had 2 of those TV and they are great at first, but don't last too long.
