Hi Guys, first time post .. long time lurker of the AVS forums.
I had a 50in samsung plasma that I bought a few years about when the Panel companies were heavy pushing the new LED tvs. I paid like 889 for it at the time and I have had it for about 4 years or so. A few months ago the TV had some weird very think blue line on the very far outter vertical edge on the left (what I would say is 1 pixel wide). normally I did not notice it unless the entire screen was a solid color. a few weeks later i had a new issue pop up were about 3 inches from the top there is a 1 pixel width black line on my screen. Its very noticeable when changing channels or in the Satellite guide menu, but unless there is a snowy or while back ground image or maybe like a blue sky you can not really notice it.
Well Friday I was out with my son to get him some winter boots (we live in Kingston, Ontario, Canada) .. and one of the big box Canadian furniture stores (Leon's) was having a huge black friday sale.
Got approval from the wife and purchased a PN60F5500. My friend gave me the link the plasmaTVBuyer's guide page for my TV and we did the TV settings. I LOVE this TV, it just looks amazing. my old TV was not the greatest in the world but it was pretty good at the time. But this 60" looks amazing. Very happy, paid 999 for it. free 2 year extended warranty.
I know a little about the 3D but have not had a chance to really try it out yet. FYI I am a huge fan of 3D in the theatres, but 3D was just a bonus for me. I wanted a good TV, 60. we watch a lot of movies. Streaming, downloaded, B-Ray, HDSatellite (PVR) and we have a Roku XS2 box as well.
To be honest it was somewhat of an impulse buy, but with Christmas coming and my son's new Wii-U and my new PS4, I figured why not. Upgrade get a smart tv with 60inches of buttery TV goodness. I will admit I somewhat stumbled on to this model. But once I started poking around I realize how good the TV was. I tuned in the TV and it looks absolutely amazing.
There is a little background and now for the questions
1. I was told that the newer plasmas dont require a "burn in" period, is that true or false? I have just put the TV on the cartoon network, zoomed in so there are no logs and just let the TV run at night.
2. Samsung sound bar - HW-F450 - Are people using the direct connect or the SoundShare ? is it worth staying with a samsung product? If I can link the sound bar volume and the TV thats really what I would want .. I have a yamaha receiver for 5.1, but I want something better then built in speakers, but wife/kid friendly. I dont want to add another remote to the TV equation.
3. I followed the Plasma TV Buying GuideSamsung-F5500 Picture Settings Are there any other adjustments I need to make or be aware of? I could not figure out the white balance settings, where it looks like you tweak some RGB settings. I checked and i am on an older version of the firmware 108 i think. I will update later. (at this time kids are watching a movie)
All other settings I made to reflect the buyers guy and I am pretty damned happy with those settings.
4. Last question - keyboard? does this TV support bluetooth or an IR keyboard. its great having all these smarttv features but why the remote does not have a keyboard is almost a silly oversight now a days .. although i dont know how hold in manufacturing time this model is. Suggestions for keyboards, links would be great.
Or is there an app from Samsung (or other) that I can download to my ipad or iphone
