Lol me too, got futureshop to match the bricks price, I guess they didn't notice that the brick isn't getting it in stock for another month! smile.gif

Mine as well will be making the trip back to futureshop if this doesn't get resolved soon. I'm in a condo and don't have a lot of space and still have this big ass box sitting in my living room just incase I do take it back.

i have my big box in the garage LOL I'm into my second week

I already cut my box up and threw it out, so looks like im going to be **** out of luck anyway, i wasnt expecting sucha silly problem with a 6 or 7th generation plasma tv. really for the price it was a decent deal. Obviously it something wrong with the entire series as 4 people from different countries wouldnt all have the same problem. I'm hoping it's just a software issue, which i think it is, but not knowing if they even recognize the problem is frustrating to say the least. I sent them another e-mail today, and will continue to contact them everyday if I need to

Took ypour advice and went toi the F8500 thread. Seems the firware fix for the brightness pops does lower the brightness of the TV every so sliightly. As I am not a big hockey fan I dont think I have to worry avout this iussue if it only occurs on hockey games. The last hiockey game I watched beginnign ti end was the last Olympic hockey gold medal game. Watched on my 58 inch b650 Samsung plasma. Picture looked fine to me. Maybe it had brightness pops and I just didnt notice. The brightness of the F8500 64 inch and F5500 51 inch is one reason I want toi purchase these TV's. I dont want to do anthiung to comprimise the brightness of the sets. Someone who really knows plasmas please advise me.

i'm not going to talk you into making a yea or nea to buy this TV all i can say i replaced a PN50C7000 with this PN51F5500 brighter and good blacks now. I too don't watch alot of hockey and the pops don't bother me but that it is doing it needs a firmware fix.

what i assume by reading the 8500 thread some didn't see any decrease in brightness and some did so i'm thinking that if there is a reduction in brightness it's very slight i think it adjusts the 10 point white balance a little and maybe just to stabilize it???

So is this firmware the firmware t hat we already updated our tvs with through the tv itself or is this a newer version? Doesn't seem to be anyway to tell.
Called samsung for the third time talked to 3 different people, in the end they where going to send someone to service my tv. So they transfer me to this service person who tells me he does not service in my area. Do I ever regret not sticking with panasonic. guess im making a trip to futureshop this weekend to return this mess of a tv. Thanks everyone on here for your help.
I downloaded the file. It is the same/more recent firmware (1102.1). Installing it won't give you anything you don't already have updating through the television. Whata joke...

I'd take it back if I could at this point...

I hope so. i don't think enough people own this TV yet to complain, or don't even notice the issue as unless you are watching Hockey, then you arn't going to see it. All other content has been great. I need to watch more blu rays lol. I got my Disney WOW calibration disc so Im going try to run through that this weekend

you are right about that this tv has only been available since April i really enjoy it i ran a HD basic i know it's not a true calibration but it's fun working and learning about color i know all feeds are a little different thats why using test test paterns helps

i keep my cell light at around 20 in the day as my room is on the bright side in the day but at night i turn it to 16 to 18
post #82 of 698
Here is what I got after going through the Disney WOW disc.Calibration was done during the day with some light infilration through curtains, so not black room by any means. I couldn't get the contrast level to pass the contrast test unless you jack up the brightness, but then you fail the brightness test, so I passed the brightness test and had max out contrast to get it as close as possible. On another note, I ran the "purity" test on the disc. It displayed a pure white screen which I let run for about 5 minutes. There was no dimming in the screen brightness whatsoever, like has been happening on HD hockey, which makes me wonder if it the TV at all, as it would dim on a pure white screen like that. So very strange...

Picture Mode - Movie
Cell Light - 20
Contrast - 100
Brightness - 50
Sharpness - 5 ( Couldnt see any change during the test)
Color - 48
Tint (G/R) - G50/R50
Picture Size - Screen Fit

Dynamic contrast - Medium
Black tone - off
Flesh Tone - 0
Color Space - Auto
White Balance - All 25
Gamma - 0

Picture Options - Color Tone - Warm 1
Digitial Clean View - Auto
Film Mode - Cinema Smooth (for blu ray)
Black optimizer - Auto

I also have the same issues with the brightness during hockey...... Love the tv otherwise, gaming on it is great, blueray is amazing, 3D is phenomenonal..... Had for almost 2 weeks now and found that only way that I can combat the issue is to have cell light at 10 - contrast 95 - brightness 0- this is standard mode with game mode on- dynamic contrast off..darker yes but not much..... at least I can bare to watch my beloved hockey

oh ya these brightness pops on the hockey game are driving me nuts. How can you release a television and have this problem. Samsung customer support is useless, they go through their list of things to suggest then say sorry we can't help. Greattttttt

has anybody watched any 3D WITH this TV I'M still on the fence with this thing i'm a big 3D buff mine does not look as sharpe as my PN60E8000 Avata looked good but then i put hugo in and i'm not that impressed is this suposed to be full 3DHD please let me know how yours looks

I found Avatar to be pretty good on the TV. The plant fluffs and plants themselves really popped out of the screen like you could almost touch them. That has been the only movie I've tested to far as the prices of 3D movies are ridiculous. I dont bother converting 2D to 3D as I don't see the point. I have Monsters Inc. coming next so i'll give that a try, but it was never intended for 3D so probably just the studio trying to add a few spots here and there. I heard finding nemo is really good becuase of the nice colours and pop you get, so maybe that is one worth trying, but I have not seen it personally. The content is pretty limited, but cartoons will always show better. I think the 3D on the TV beats anything at the movie theatre.

i just popped in IMAX Deep Sea 3D looked very good but when i watched hugo there was alot of odd things going on, how do i explain it you know how the screen splits it for left and right eye i can still see a shadow beside hugo's head might be the glasses not sure i'll check it later on my PN60E8000 to see if it's the same.
