So my old system is dead and I'm pretty much set on this being my next receiver (X2000 is in the running but the gleaming accolades here are staving off my positive history with Denon), I'm still uncertain as to what speakers to get.
The simple cheap option is probably the Energy Take Classics. They're affordable (where's the fun in that), will get the job done and tide me over until I can decide on/can afford something better. The 1040 is probably overkill for them, but it'll be there waiting for better speakers to come along.
I could invest a tiny bit more, and go for something like Harman Kardon' HKTS 20BQ or the NHT Super Surround 5.1. A bit more umph, I'll probably be a bit happier and they'll tide me over longer, if not indefinitely and still within my very uncertain budget.
Or I could go for broke (literally) and get the NHT Absolute 5.1 tower system. If I go this route I will likely only be able to afford the two towers, and a sub for now, and will pick up the center and surrounds later, which while the idea of having the complete set at some point is very enticing, only having surround sound when the PS4 launches is kind of a bummer.
Anywho, I would love any advice, alternative options, notes on any mismatches (the Absolute's may outclass the 1040, no?) and any other info would be wildly appreciated.
