The hyperbole I spoke of was that you were implying that Fry's was always WAY cheaper than Best Buy. You threw out 2 or 3 super old examples at the time. You have come up with one since then, not counting a Blu-Ray(because people care about those). In the end, these things happen. I'm sure there are some that Best Buy beats Fry's on as well. Can you quit mis-using the word hyperbole now? Get over it.

actually lol, I guess you didnt catch the sarcasm I was implying with your misuse of the word "hyperbole"

Super odd examples?...not at all...I have been buying a lot of electronics for years and could cite many examples of what I have stated

I have used many more examples than one with zero percent speculation/assumption....but I chalk that up to selective reading

but anyway

Those that dont shop ( or buy) as often are not likely to know the continuity levels of comparison pricing

...as I said there are a few I could cite every week...especially this time of year
... I have cited many examples.. easily verifiable ones in TV's
I spoke about the several AVR's as well......same difference in that product category with pricing

People dont care about blu ray's?...I would disagree with you there. I think people care about everything
Whether of not they can take the time to compare( for many reasons) is another factor...but you are mistaken if you think they dont care

I am certain there are items..on weekly basis, that BB beats Fry's on...
However there is a big difference in price match policy. Therein lies the difference

I have shopped and will continue to shop at BB/Magnolia. I have been Premier reward zone for many years.

But...I know the limitations and have the right expectations

and I live in a market with a Fry's.....smile.gif

Come to Canada - 2 Main Electronics Stores across Canada (Excepting Visions) - Future Shop and Best Buy - Best Buy bought out FutureShop. Where's the competition here?

They actually run autonomously. So really, they do compete.

Somewhat!
FS has better return policies!

Someone took a picture once of a FutureShop right across the parking lot from a Best Buy, I thought that was pretty amusing. Even their weekly ads look remarkably similar.

Well, I can tell you that they are run by different business teams. That and their internal business models are fairly differentiated. So, FWIW, it's not just a different name slapped on the front door.

I'm not sure what relevance it really has if the profits ultimately end up in the same place. Not even sure why it matters, tbh. I mean what you're really talking about there is the difference between a Corvette and a CTS. The cars share virtually nothing but their ultimate futures are still decided by GM. Office Depot and Office Max used to be separate and now Depot owns Max (which I used to work at, as my first and only retail job). So far they've operated independently since the switchover, but any of that could change at any moment.

It's relevant because someone implied that there is a lack of competition between the two. I was bringing up the fact that they do in fact compete and are run as separate businesses. Sure, I suppose that COULD change at any time, but it wouldn't make any sense.

Can you even place a soundbar with that base?
The soundbar offer is only through this Saturday, so maybe after that?

This bundle just started. It will be going on for a few weeks.

How do you know this?

A lot of retailers treat promotions like this from a week-by-week perspective. This is in case a promotion get's cancelled, so that they are not promising a lengthy promotion just to have it cancelled early. Probably also because of the added benefit of creating more urgency around it. Amazon lists this specific promo as ending January 18th, for instance.

That said, this will be ongoing through 2/8. If you go into a Magnolia, you will see that expiration date printed on the sign that represents this offer. Technically, the offer could change, but this almost never happens.

Yes, I have the HWF-550. The slim profile is enough to be unobtrusive, and yet produce an awesome output. My soundbar is placed in front of my F8500 and the height covers the base of the the TV and a few centimeters of the bottom bezel. In short, it doesn't cut into the picture. I think I looked at the dimensions of a lot of other soundbars and all of them were taller than the clearance at the bottom of the F8500.

somewhat of a moot point though since I was driving it back to Indiana and I had to actually have them remove the outer packaging( and the stand) to get the panel to fit between the space between my front and rear seat

I spoke with the store manager today lol. He told me of how they "bubble wrapped the crap out of that TV"

Retailer said, since I didn't need the Sound Bar, he'd knock $750 off the price.

Yeah I was simply looking at the 18th listed on Amazon's site. I know I had seen that they previously had that $200 gift card offer listed until the 28th of December and it ended on that date. I wish I didn't let that one slip by.

So if you don't want a free $250 soundbar, he'll knock $750 off the price? I guess I know who I'm buying my next TV from.

Unusual, but nice, thing happened when I placed my order for a F8500 with Amazon. For some unknown reason, I was denied shipment on the free sound bar, and instead received a $231 discount. I was going to happily give away the sound bar to a family member, but I'm just as happy to receive the discount. Even after calling Amazon to clear things up, they weren't able to offer a definitive answer as to why this happen. Ah well, I'm not complaining.

Base price on the unit was as listed.

What I thought strange about the soundbar offer was that I'd presume that most people getting a high end set would have a surround system. Maybe not?
I was thinking the same thing... In my case, the only incentive the sound bar provided was the possibility of giving it away. And so, Amazon got not argument from me when they applied the discount.

A local independent dealer also offed me an additional discount for not taking the bundled sound bar on the 64" F8500.  He also said to expect an additional discount starting next week.
