Although I am still building my other theater in my current house, It's time to start planning for the new one in the house I'm building starting next spring.
We have narrowed our plans and here is what it looks like:
what is that arch? riser or stage? If you intend to kill some time in the theater when your significant other is trying to sleep in the bedroom above you really need to get serious about soundproofing.
Yah I wouldn't pay attention to what the draftsmen put in room as far as risers n such, this is just a pic of the lay out and dimensions of proposed theater. If I am gonna have width restraints then ill probably go to a staggered stud wall in stead of a true room within a room design. Clips and channel on ceiling, framing decoupled by ib-3 brackets, single door with auto door jamb and door bottom. I've had good practice with my first theater that I hope I can take what I learned and apply it to the new one. I'm getting close to finishing the theater in current house, check it out in my signature.
So we have been going thru structure and mechanical plans and looks as thou it would be best to keep the proposed room dimensions as is. So my inside dimensions I have to work with are 24'-6" x 14', this is using standard 2 x 4 framing and 1/2" drywall, so once I go staggered stud wall plus 2 layers of 5/8 material I'll be around 24'-1/2" x 13'-6 1/2" I/D. Longer and thinner than my current theater, not to sure how I feel about that! Everything is not set in stone, but it's looking like the way I may have to go.
and fire code will dictate the door needs to swing inwards....
Are those eD Cinema slants wide dispersion or horns? (Had to Google image them.) The side surrounds are properly located for dipoles but not for a direct radiator.

I wouldn't want horns that close to my seat. Your speaker surround location as drawn, is perfect for dipoles (which are also a good choice for narrow rooms).
The surround speaker location as drawn, should have a direct radiating speakers located at the end of the primary viewing row. Just one row with slightly compromised
surround sound then.
The Google Images picture I came up with, shows the eD to be a pretty shallow speaker. Another design option might be to ditch the columns and build a pair of angled fabric walls
on the side walls, then use the depth of these AT walls to mount the eD's up high and angle to fire forward and down, over seated heads. The AT walls would also earn their keep
hiding acoustical treatments. The equipment room door could be fabric covered and blend into the wall. The room's visible square footage would be slightly less, but the room would also
have a simplified look with all gear hidden.
You also might want to run a couple of empty conduits from the equipment room to the front AT space, as future proofing. The equipment room also would be a good candidate for
Over sized backer type boxes could steal a few inches of wall depth (but preserve sound proofing. A single angled fabric wall per side could create the depth to aim
the eD's (and keep the wall shallow,) to fire down and over, seated heads. A section of upper rear wall fabric panel could hide the rears. The side angled walls could
also hide rear corner wall treatments.
I have no idea how to draw in angled walls, but I could see the start of the angled wall starting at the top of the riser step, or media room door. The av/media room door could also be fabric
matched to the wall, to disappear. Give the entry a similar finish, and you would then have perfect symmetry.
I think in order to maximize the space in the new theater, I may just go with 2 x 4 walls decoupled by clips on top plate instead of 2 x 6 walls, like NYGIANTSFAN23 theater. Stretch my length/width as much as possible, with this direction I can get a 24' 4 1/2" x 13' 10 1/2" room, inside a 2 x 4 frame & 2 layers of 5/8 material. Soundproofing is important but I have to work with what I got.
Ok so we are finalizing our plans this week to then sign a building contract.
The builders are finishing the complete house except the theater room/media closet, but I need to go over with them the wall construction/clips, door placement and hvac.
Interior dimensions with below comments after drywall would be 24' 2 1/2" x 13' 8 1/2", longer and narrower than my previous theater. I wanted longer, be nice to be at least 15' wide but plans and budget didn't allow. In my current theater with the 2 rows of 3 seats i have a lot of room between seats and riser steps and could of made them bigger to fill the gap but didn't so that gap will get a bit smaller with new theater dimensions.
Everything will be finished on the interior side of the walls, so will be just studs on the theater side.
First
Wall Construction with keeping soundproofing in mind
I want to preserve my interior dimensions as much as I can, so double wall is out of the question.
Thinking 2x4 walls along the exterior cement walls decoupled at joist with IB-3 clips.
Then 2x6 staggered stud walls on the 2 interior walls decoupled at joist with IB-3 clips.
Door placement to go with room plans
Thinking of a two 30" solid core 1 3/4" thick doors again with wide throw hinges.
I may just get them to build the opening big enough so i can put my own 1.5" door jamb all the way around, needs to be beefy with two 1 3/4" door hanging from it.
Need to figure exact placement, factors include column placement, panel configuration(similar to bacon race), stage size.
HVAC
The main trunks basically split the house in half, running end to end in the basement from the closet in Bed 5, thru hallway, across back side of rec room and into bathroom.
So basically get them to put access to a 8" return and two 6" supplies parallel with joists to the wall with caps for now.
Anything to add? Am i missing anything for the initial construction? What else should the builders do on the interior side of walls?
I like your floor plan. While not theater related, we joined our master bath and master closet. Im so lazy, i didnt want to have to walk out of the bathroom to get my clothes out of the closet. We also put the washer and dryer in the master closet. No carrying laundry from room to room.
Wow its been a long time, here are some updates. Probably a few weeks away from moving in!
