Which display wins the shootout? Let's have some fun. Make your predictions here.

We all have been taking this display thing way too seriously in my opinion. So let's have some fun with this. The people who guess right get to call themselves "Master Predictive Forecaster" or something like that. Suggestions welcome.

I predict that the ZT60 wins over all best display.
F8500 comes in 2nd.
VT60 3rd.

And that there will be confusing caveats galore offered by the judges.

1, ZT60
2. VT60
3. 8500 close third

I would prefer a title of "El Conquistador " lol

i'm going to predict that the TESTERS with CALIBRATED tv's will pick
#1 ZT60
#2 VT60
#3 F8500

i say calibrated because i believe the only advantages of the F8500 get eliminated when the sets are calibrated to a fixed light output, and viewed in reference dark rooms.

i'm thinking the 'buzz' from casual viewers and enthusiasts viewing the tv's uncalibrated or in brighter rooms will be between the ZT60 and F8500. i don't know which way that will go, but i assume that an 'even' match would go to the panny due to viewer bias and ppl assuming you 'get what you pay for'.

I don't know who will win or what Ken ross will say but I'll say this: we will be better served if the f8500 wins! Why?

More controversy. Controversy sells TVs.

If Panasonic wins they will cease plasma production quicker saying that they produced the ultimate and there was nothing left to prove.

If Samsung wins it may goad Panasonic into maybe some infintessimal improvements in the 2014 models.

That won't happen if Panasonic wins--and I don't mean just this shoot out--I mean in most buyer's minds who fancy themselves as videophiles..

I say if Samsung wins it may be one more year of plasma production out of BOTH Samsung and Panasonic.

Maybe it means that Panasonic COULD be better in 2014 before bowing out and it might mean that Samsung will definitely still be producing the successor to the f8500 in 2015.

There is hope for 2014.

2015 there might still be a great plasma or...well I'm sure you've heard the other scenario somewhere!

Just think of it folks--Brightness lovers versus black lovers and Kuro worshipers versus Kuro haters and maybe even the Sharp Elite worshipers chime in.

This might be better than wrestling!!!

There might even be someone out there who would be brave enough to say that the wrestling was rigged!

Hey, where's your picks Art?

Without even viewing the sets I'll say that I think it should be 1)ZT60
2)f8500
3)VT60

I'm saying what it will be is 1)f8500
2)ZT60
3)VT60

The f8500 will win the shoot out because it is rigged because MORE TVS will be sold if the Samsung wins because there will be more controversy and controversy sells TVs.

There will also be great comments about past Kuros to cause even more controversy!

When it comes to SALES though Samsung will be the clear winner--the buying public always goes for the brightest display!

When it comes to which is best--it'll be the Panasonic ZT60--the people that will know this will be the same people that think that Coke is better than Pepsi and that Betamax was better than VHS.

Some people always get it--some people never do!

How can a display with 53cd/m2 ANSI peak whites be the King of HDTV? Because of the blacks?

You may be right Art. I feel a little peculiar picking a TV that has not been reviewed in NA. That's branding and marketing for you, I guess.

as good as the 8500 is, no samsung has ever won the shootout, and is certainly not "rigged" in favor of the 8500.

Pfft, all your predictions are wrong. Especially the Panasonic and Samsung war.

The true king will be a LCD-LED edgelit Dynex. wink.gif

lol, @ the Coke versus Pepsi taste preference, clearly a case of which one of these comparisons does not belong in said group. wink.gif

Those measurement are from AVForum. Their Black Level measurement were also low from them. I would put more stock in HDTVTest (David MacKenzie). He measured 68 cd/m2.

60 inch Dynex will obviously be the surprise display.

Think Vizio will take it this year. Hahaha.

Looking forward to tomorrow and Sat. Should be a good one.

I say

ZT60
F8500
VT60
How I think it should go?
1. F8500
2. VT 60 & ZT60 (too close to call)
3. Who cares?

How I think it will go as a result, to some degree, of the influence of reviews that have already been released?
1. ZT60
2. VT60
3. F8500

But I find it odd that people put so much weight on how others vote. In past shootouts there has always been a difference in how people vote because people see things differently. Unfortunately not everyone can get to the shootout and the live internet feed doesn't really make it possible to do any kind of accurate judging.

I really feel for those that don't have local retail access to see the displays for themselves and can only rely on an internet feed they see over their LCD displays with a poor CR, recorded by a camera that can't begin to do justice to any of these displays.

I'll be fascinated to see how the voting goes, but rest assured I'll buy the display that looks best to me, not to the guy (or gal) sitting to my left or right. I know some people love the bragging rights of saying "I bought the display that won the shootout", but I've never felt that way.

Either way it will be fun tomorrow night and I look forward to meeting some who I've battled with and others whom I've agreed with! When you meet everyone in person, all this pettiness goes down the tubes. smile.gif

1)ZT60
2)VT60
3)F8500

If Artwood's theory were possible then we'd all be rooting for the LG.

I'll see ya'll at the shootout.
I think this year's shootout winner will be an OLED display from either LG or Samsung. LG seems more possible because they already started selling OLED TVs in Korea and they will make it to US too.
Plasma
1) ZT60
2) VT60 (Runner up...most close in a history of Shootout)
3) F8500

LCD/LED

1) F8000
2) X900A
3) LA8600
4) WT60

Only if surprise, surprise is LG OLED...LG OLED will be the Winner...Like we say: "EL MEJOR"

PS: Only matter to me calibrator's result.
